Efficient and Reliable on the Road.Europe Drives With Voith DIWA

Numerous well-known operators all over Europe have decided in favor of buses with Voith DIWA automatic transmissions for their latest vehicle purchases. The large British transport company Stagecoach has recently ordered a total of 400 vehicles from Alexander Dennis and Optare with DIWA transmissions. Stagecoach has been relying exclusively on the Voith transmission for nearly 15 years. The reliability of the transmission coupled with extraordinary fuel economy as well as local service convince the operator on all levels.

From 2014, the Euro 6 norm will be introduced in many countries. For this reason, European transport operators also pay special attention to lower fuel consumption and reduced emissions when they purchase new vehicles.

Wiener Linien renewed their fleet with 217 new Mercedes-Benz Citaro buses with the latest transmission from Voith: the DIWA.6. After intensive scientific research, the operator chose the most economical and resource-sparing drive concept. DIWA.6 combined with the topography-dependent gear-shifting program SensoTop is opti-mally adapted to Euro 6 and saves up to five percent more fuel than its predecessor model. This reduces operating costs and CO2 emissions quite significantly. Apart from being installed with DIWA transmissions, all vehicles are also fitted with Voith air compressors. All in all: a real efficiency package.

FIFA Confed Cup 2013, Soccer World Cup 2014 or Olympic Summer Games 2016 – mega sports events present the venues with a massive challenge: how will tens of thousands of spectators get to the arenas on time, safely and comfortably?

In order to meet the challenge, the bus operators of the Brazilian metropolises São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Recife, Brasilia or Belo Horizonte rely on either new BRT systems or extend existing lines. On board in all new vehicles: the DIWA transmission from Voith, the world market leader in BRT. A genuine mark of confidence, because in some cases the newly ordered vehicles are the first ones to have automatic trans-missions.

For São Paulo alone, over 500 buses from Mercedes-Benz do Brasil with DIWA.5 were ordered, among them also the “Super Articulado”: 23 meters long with a ca-pacity of up to 200 passengers. Another 500 DIWA transmissions will be installed in the BRT system in Santiago de Chile. In Bogotá’s worldwide renowned BRT system Transmilenio more than 200 new vehicles will be added. Rapidly growing megacities are a sign of the times, especially in Asia. Whoever wants to be mobile in these places is dependent on public transport systems. In order to get millions of passengers to their destinations quickly and reliably every day, bus and rail operators are extending their fleets in all major cities.

Singapore’s leading bus and rail operator, SBS Transit, is expanding its fleet by a total of 1 000 new solo and double-decker buses (450 Mercedes-Benz and 550 Volvo). All vehicles will be fitted with a DIWA.5 transmission. A remarkable success for Voith: the largest single order in the history of the DIWA transmission ever.

In China, too, transport operators appreciate fast and individual on-site customer care. Over the last few months, more than 400 new vehicles with LNG (liquefied natural gas) engines and DIWA transmissions went to the megacities Dalian, Kunshan, Changzhou and Wuhan. And Chengdu, a metropolis with highly demanding city traffic, recently ordered 200 solo buses with CNG (compressed natural gas) engines and DIWA transmissions.
