Wow; you’ve finished the Moot and now there is post tour! This guide provides and overview of Post tour; what happening pre-KISC and then tells you what time, where to meet, and what to bring for each of the activities on offer at KISC.

Each individual on the Australian Contingent has their own program at KISC - so you’re responsible for being in the right place at the correct time. We’ve also included a map of KISC and Kandersteg to help you make the most of your adventure.

Description Take the train to Thun, get in an inflatable donut and cruise to the capital city of Bern. The water is crystal clear and the views along the river are spectacular. An afternoon exploring the capital – including a wide game – will finish this day off in style. Your kit will be transported to the other end of the float trip by trailer.

Lütschine River RaftingMeeting 7:40am, KanderLodge Carpark

Description The mighty Lütschine offers some of the best white water rafting in the Swiss Alps.

Starting from below the Eiger north face, continuous class III - IV rapids surge down the mountains and out into the Lake of Brienz and Interlaken.

Grimsel CanyoningMeeting 7:40am, KanderLodge Carpark

Description Set in a majestic alpine environment on a mountain pass, the Grimsel trip starts with a breath-taking 50m abseil and continues with amazing jumps, zip lines and slides into crystal clear pools. The pale-coloured rock formations in this canyon add to the stunning mountain scenery. It is suitable for older Scouts looking for adventure!

Chli Shhliere CanyoningMeeting 7:40am, KanderLodge Carpark

Description The best of the best, Chli Schliere takes canyoning to the ultimate level. This canyon has high rappels, big jumps, fast slides and is considered the best in the region. Chli Schliere is a physically demanding and technical canyon with a high fun factor. It is suitable for confident, athletic people who want to be challenged. Take the leap, as this will for sure be the highlight of your trip here!

Description A favourite amongst Scouts and the perfect introduction to white water rafting. Ride fun filled class II-III rapids in the beautiful Simmental.

Cheesery HikeMeeting 7:45am, in front of Chalet

Description This hike takes you from the centre, up to the Höh viewpoint, before rising up through Alpine Pastures (and past Alpine Cows!). At lunchtime you will arrive at your goal, the Gölitschenalp Cheesery. Here you can soak up the view down the valley towards Lake Thun, and enjoy the tranquil peace. You will also be given a guided tour of this Cheesery, where cheese is made using the same traditional methods as have been used in these valleys for centuries. You will also have the chance to try fresh milk and cheese made there too!

Doldenhorn Hut HikeMeeting 7:45am, in front of Chalet

Description This hike covers a wide variety of terrain for such a one day hike, starting in dense forest and winding up through the trees before eventually emerging out of the tree line to the barren rocky plateau on which the Doldenhornhütte stands. The Doldenhornhütte is situated directly below Doldenhorn, a prominent peak which towers high above the Kandersteg Valley. From the hut you have fantastic views of this peak, as well as down the alpine lake Oeschinensee which lies below the hut. We stop at the hut for lunch and to sample some alpine meat and cheese, as well as some delicious hot tea. After enjoying the view, we then hike down to Kandersteg taking a different route taking us back to the centre.

Lotschenpass HikeMeeting 7.15am, in front of Chalet

Description Take a memorable trip across the stunning Lötschenpass, a high alpine pass in use since Roman Times. For this one day hike, we take the bus from Kandersteg along the Gastern Valley, where our hike begins. The hike starts off steeply up the valley side, passing Gfellalp Hut and the Lötschen glacier: a spectacular introduction to glacier walking. From here it is a short while further the goal of our hike, the Lötschenpass. Soak up the view whilst enjoying your lunch, or even treat yourself to some well-earned cake at the Lötschenpass Hut! You will then drop into the beautiful Lötschental Valley where you will catch a bus and a train to bring you back to Kandersteg.

Gasterntal HikeMeeting 8:15am, in front of Chalet

Description Our easiest 1 day hike, Journey through the beautiful Gastern Valley and absorb some of the most spectacular valley views in Switzerland. We take the bus to Selden and then hike to Heimritz where you can enjoy views of snow-capped peaks and ancient glaciers. The rest of the day is a leisurely cruise downhill to the Centre. The hike gains 200 vertical metres and is about 14km long.

Description Take the cable car to the Allmenalp meadows, where you will begin one of the most exciting hikes that we offer - to the summit of Bunderspitz (2,546m). Take in the beautiful scenery and amazing views over the Alps. Cross the Bunderchrinde pass and take the steep descent into the Ueschinen Valley and back to Kandersteg.

Mountain Huts 101Swiss mountain huts are more sophisticated than their Australian counterparts. There are mattresses and blankets, a kitchen and a drop toilet.

You only need to carry a day pack with a change of clothes basic toiletries and some fresh food which will be given to you before departure - the non-perishables are stored in the hut - plus your standard Alpine Kit. You may wish to consider a sleeping bag liner which can make it more comfortable. There is one big bedroom in the mountain huts - so everyone will be bunking together (earplugs could also be useful).

Bunderspitz and Three Valleys HikeMeeting 7.15am, in front of Chalet

Description On the first day hike up to the summit of Bunderspitz (2,546 m) and cross the Bunderchrinde pass (2,385 m). Instead of returning to KISC, you will spend the night in our Ueschinenhütte, to set off the next morning on the superb Three Valleys Hike. This second day will take you even higher up to an elevation of 2,735 m, past the stunning Tschingellochtighorn providing some spectacular views of the Alps and Adelboden. At the end of the hike you will take a well-deserved descent in Sunnbüel cable car.

Three Valleys HikeMeeting 1:45pm, in front of Chalet

Meals Carry 1 Packed Lunch (and eat one before departure on Day 1)

Description This hike is your chance to visit three different valleys on the same trip. Starting on the first day with a 3 hour walk into the Ueschinen Valley, you will spend the night in the Ueschinen Hut, our alpine hut at 1890m. The next morning your guide will lead the group to an elevation of 2735m, providing some spectacular views of the Alps and Adelboden. After crossing the Engstligengrat you descend over Schwarzgratli, past the Schwarenbach Hotel and arrive at the Sunnbüel cable car which takes you back to Kandersteg.

Snow and Ice ComboMeeting 7.15am, in front of Chalet

Description This workshop combines the very popular Ice Climbing and Glacier Workshops. The group leave the centre early on the first day arriving at the Fründen Hut (2,562m) for lunch. After a break you travel on to the glacier and participate in the Glacier Workshop. After staying overnight in the hut you then participate in the exciting Ice Climbing Workshop. In the afternoon you hike back to the Centre. This activity is great value for money and makes the most of your time, but a good level of fitness is required.

Glacier WorkshopMeeting 12:15am, in front of Chalet

Description A beginner’s introduction to the world of glaciers and the skills you need to negotiate them. No experience needed but good hiking fitness essential. Leave in the afternoon to catch the gondola to Oeschinensee and hike up to the Fründen Hut (2,562m), enjoying the awesome scenery and arriving in time for dinner. On the second day ice axe skills, roping up, crevasse rescue and glacier travel skills are taught and practiced. Hike back down to KISC via Oeschinensee, arriving back in time for dinner.A great workshop for those interested in learning new skills or exploring the glacier.

Description Discover the magic of the Stresa – the small town on the edge of picturesque Lake Maggiore in Italy. Soak up the Mediterranean atmosphere and enjoy a pizza or a gelato lakeside. Jump on the ferry to hop between the historic islands which are the playground for Europe’s rich and famous.

Description Travel over the Jaunpass to the Cailler chocolate factory in Broc. Enjoy the chocolate factory tour which is guaranteed to warm the taste buds of the biggest ‘chocoholics’. From Broc you travel to Gruyères – the famous cheese capital of Switzerland. You will have time to explore the picturesque town of Gruyère and eat your lunch, before enjoying a short informative tour around the modern facility which makes this world famous cheese. Enjoy some of Switzerland’s finest delicacies in these beautiful locations.

Description take a bus to Interlaken – the tourist capital of Switzerland nestled at the bottom of Jungfraujoc - where you’ll fly through the trees at one of the best high ropes parks you will ever see. 9 courses with ziplines and challenges to test and thrill. Spend the afternoon relaxing in the historic city of Thun.

Description Swing through the air like Tarzan, feel the adrenaline rush as you race through the air on 1,500m of zip wire high above the river and lose touch with solid ground as you negotiate the rope bridge. Adrenaline junkies can add on a spectacular bridge swing.

Description Try a different type of sledding! The 750m long Summer Sled Run, with a short hike to lake Oeschinensee, is great fun for Scouts of all ages. Made famous by many online viral videos!

Description Our guides will take you up in the Sunnbüel cable car to Winteregg for a full day of climbing. Whether you are new to the sport, or have some experience climbing, our guides will help you progress with your skills and learn new techniques.
