+Core Values
5
Organizational Values & Your Values
● Define where you want to be
○ Core values
■ Should be differentiating factor
■ Guide everything people in the organization do
○ How are stated values modeled?
■ Give you view into typical day/experience there
■ Are they lived or aspirational?
6
Different Types of Values
Aspirational Values
Permission-to-Play Values
Accidental Values
7
Tying Core Values to Interview Questions
Develop a systematic way to tie core values to every answer:
1. What is the question really asking?
2. Rephrase what your perception of the question is.
3. Tie your answer to a core value.
4. Provide a specific example.
5. Offer a segway into demonstration/proof.
8
Possible Scenario
For example:“Why do you want to work for us?”
Possible answer:When I hear that question, I think you want to know how I would make a positive impact at your company. One of my core values is perseverance. When faced with adversity, I seek ways to focus on the positive because I know what I focus on will expand. For example, during this time at home when I haven’t been able to be with friends or family, I decided it was a perfect time to start practicing yoga. I’ve found that yoga has really helped me persevere through challenges without getting stressed out. I feel like this experience will make me a great fit for your company because I know how important it is to manage stressful situations and continue learning.

Possible Scenario
Group Session or Breakout Group“Thank you for taking your time to speak with us today. After doing research about Johnson Lambert, it sparked me to join the conversation today. Two of the things I value and are important to my career search, and I would like to know more about in the context of JL, is the autonomy I would have in my career and the people I would be surrounded by. Would it be possible to cover these topics in our time together today? Do either of those questions resonate with you as candidates?”
