History: LAV was founded in 1933, when the Venezue­lan Government took over the routes and equipment of the Cie Generale Aeropostale, which had begun operating in Venezuela in 1930. LAV took over TACA de Venezuela on July 1, 1957 The international services of LAV and Avensa are now operated by Viasa, in which LAV has a small holding.

Lineas Aereas Costarricenses SA (LACSA), Costa Rica's national carrier, currently operates scheduled passenger and cargo services from San Jose to Los Angeles, New Orleans, Miami, New York, San Juan (Puerto Rico), Cancun, Mexico City, Guatemala, El Salvador, San Pedro Sula, Panama, Barranquilla, Maracaibo, and Caracas. A domestic network is operated by Servicios Aereos Nacion-ales (SANSA), a subsidiary of LACSA. Current sharehold­ers are the Government (3.8%), LACSA employees (6.5%), and the public (89.7%).

History: LACSA was founded in 1945 by Pan American, the Costa Rican Government and Costa Rican private interests. Operations began in June 1946, and in 1952 the company tdok over Taca de Costa Rica, which had operated since 1939 as a unit of the Taca system.

Lineas Aereas del Estado (LADE) is a branch of the Argentine Air Force. The carrier operates from El Palomar Air Base, Buenos Aires, to 31 domestic points in the southern part of the country, known as Patagonia. LADE is charged with operating fast and efficient communica­tions between the various regions of the State to promote political, economic and social development.

Lineas Aereas Paraguayas (LAP-Paraguayan Airlines), the national airline of Paraguay, operates a network of scheduled domestic and international passenger and cargo services. The airline's management is made up of Para­guayan Air Force officers. The carrier's international routes link Asuncion with Miami, Santiago, Santa Cruz de la Sierra, Montevideo, Buenos Aires, Sao Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Lima, Madrid, Brussels, and Frankfurt.

Lineas Aereas Privadas Argentinas (LAPA), a Buenos Aires based carrier, operates scheduled passenger services within the Buenos Aires and Entre Rio provinces, plus a route to Uruguay. Charter services are also operated.

History: Charter operations began in 1978 and sched­uled services followed a year later.

Linhas Aereas de Angola (TAAG-Angola Airlines) oper­ates an extensive network of scheduled passenger and cargo services from Luanda to 18 points in Angola, plus international routes to Sao Tome, Kinshasa, Sal, Brazza­ville, Maputo, Lusaka, Havana, Paris, Rome, Berlin-Schonefeld, Lisbon, Moscow, and Rio de Janeiro. With effect from November 1989, TAAG planned to operate Luanda-Rio de Janeiro with a leased DC-10-30. The airline has two associated companies, TAAG-Air Charter (with a fleet of two 707-320C operating cargo flights) and TAAG-Aviacao Ligeira (general aviation).

History: TAAG was originally formed as DTA in 1939 as a division of the Ports, Railways and Transport Authority of Portuguese West Africa. The carrier was redesignated TAAG-Angola Airlines following independence in 1973.

History: LAM was formed in August 1936 as Direcao de Exploracao dos Transportes Aereos (DETA) by the Gov­ernment of Mozambique, as a division of the Railways, Harbours and Airways administration. Early in 1980 DETA was restructured and renamed.

Linjeflyg, a Swedish domestic carrier, is the largest European operator of the Fokker F.28. The airline is jointly owned by AB Aerotransport (50%) and SAS (50%) Routes: The company's 38-point domestic network of scheduled passenger services links Stockholm (Arlanda) with most major business and holiday centres in Sweden. Charter flights are also operated.

History. The airline was founded in 1957 to operate passenger services and newspaper delivery flights in Sweden.
