Mike is currently the acting president of the newly formed Distributed Wind Energy Association. Targeted audience: property owners, RE business persons looking to add wind installations to their services 1 pm–4:30 pm $40 Emerging Storage Technologies and Applications Presented by the Texas Energy Storage Alliance This workshop will present new business opportunities emerging in the grid-storage market in Texas and the US, and provide an opportunity to meet and initiate relationships with industry leaders. Industry representatives will present information about new developments and emerging technologies in the markets for energy storage. Topics will include flywheel and battery storage; bulk storage, such as compressed air energy storage; thermal storage; and community-level storage systems. Emerging markets for grid-power quality and regulation, ramping and other ancillary services and renewables integration will be covered. Peak shaving and peak shifting as a utility resource and as a customer resource will also be addressed. The Texas Energy Storage Alliance is a diverse and technology- neutral coalition of energy storage technology product or service companies and allies pursuing an open and fair legal and regulatory environment in the Texas and ERCOT markets. Targeted audience: utility and RE business persons 1 pm–4:30 pm $50 Removing the Upfront-Cost Barrier to Solar Presented by Lanny Sinkin, executive director, Solar San Antonio; Robert Young, Office of Environmental Policy, City of San Antonio; Greg Brockhouse, San Antonio Credit Union This workshop will explore mechanisms for financing solar and how these mechanisms can be used to overcome resistance to adopting solar based on the high up front cost. PACE (Property Assessed Clean Energy) programs, other forms of using loan-loss reserve funds to make financing solar more affordable, specialized solar lending that incorporates rebates and other incentives, and group purchasing by solar adopters are among the models to be explored. Targeted audience: property owners; RE business persons 1 pm–4:30 pm $30 Green Building: What, How and Why? Presented by the staff of Build San Antonio Green: Anita Ledbetter Devora, executive director; Aaron Stein, project manager; Lina Luque, certification manager; Kris Zebrowski, communication and outreach coordinator Green building is not just about reusing materials; it is also about being performance based. Core fundamentals, such as energy and water efficiency, site development and indoor air quality, are critical for building performance and occupant health. This workshop covers the key elements to green building and why it matters—to both you and your clients. Build San Antonio Green has certified nearly 500 homes and been recognized at the local, state and national levels. It was awarded the 2009 “Green Building Program of the Year” by the National Association of Home Builders. Targeted audience: builders, both production and custom; designers and architects; students. AIA members can receive credits for sustainable design by self-reporting this workshop on the AIA website. 1 pm–4:30 pm $30
