Small Wind Systems for Homes and Small BusinessesPresented by Mike Bergey, president, Bergey Windpower Company
This workshop will provide a primer onsmall wind technology, performance,economics, certification and permitting.The emphasis will be on grid-tied turbinesunder 50 kW for homes, farms and smallbusinesses. A co-founder of Bergey Windpower and itspresident since 1987, Mike Bergey is amechanical engineer who has been in thesmall wind business for 35 years. He servedas president of the American Wind EnergyAssociation (AWEA) twice and chaired the

Emerging Storage Technologies and ApplicationsPresented by the Texas Energy Storage Alliance
This workshop will present new business opportunities emerging inthe grid-storage market in Texas and the US, and provide anopportunity to meet and initiate relationships with industry leaders.Industry representatives will present information about newdevelopments and emerging technologies in the markets for energystorage. Topics will include flywheel and battery storage; bulk storage,such as compressed air energy storage; thermal storage; andcommunity-level storage systems. Emerging markets for grid-powerquality and regulation, ramping and other ancillary services andrenewables integration will be covered. Peak shaving and peak shiftingas a utility resource and as a customer resource will also be addressed. The Texas Energy Storage Alliance is a diverse and technology-neutral coalition of energy storage technology product or servicecompanies and allies pursuing an open and fair legal and regulatoryenvironment in the Texas and ERCOT markets.Targeted audience: utility and RE business persons1 pm–4:30 pm $50

This workshop will explore mechanisms for financing solar and howthese mechanisms can be used to overcome resistance to adoptingsolar based on the high up front cost. PACE (Property Assessed CleanEnergy) programs, other forms of using loan-loss reserve funds tomake financing solar more affordable, specialized solar lending thatincorporates rebates and other incentives, and group purchasing bysolar adopters are among the models to be explored.
