This is a group work programme designed for Key Stage 2. The programme is designed to be a 90-minute session delivered to a targeted group of pupils. The resource is designed to cover a range of needs but may be adapted where necessary to suit individual needs. The programme is designed to increase pupil self-awareness, self-control and motivation through enhanced understanding of their own Identity, the Influences that contribute to it and therefore building on and affirming their uniqueness. The programme also aims to build confidence and self-esteem, increased positive mental wellbeing and empowered, motivated learners. The Resource supports group work delivery to be reflective, creative and allows time for exploration of Identity through story-telling and allowing the pupils to create and freely express their own narratives. This session is built on a strengths-based youth work approach that genuinely recognises and validates that every young person has strengths, and that there is strength in every action and decision they make. It is a conscious attempt to help pupils gain for themselves, the knowledge, feelings and skills necessary to meet their own development needs. Exploring and being positive about qualities and skills and articulating strengths is often very difficult for pupils along with hearing positive feedback from others. It is hoped that the conversations promoted through this session will allow pupils to more readily accept themselves and affirmations and become empowered through the process.

Using the parachute call pupils to run under if: - You have long hair, you like pizza, you like playing

football etc… The facilitator should ensure each pupil has an opportunity to run under and explain that each person in the group has different characteristics and each person was able to support the parachute for other members of the group to run under so not only did we get to see how unique we are but we also helped other people to do the same as well.
