OBJECTIVEThe workshop conducted by Key resource persons from Water Aid Indiaand will focus on providing an overview and brief analysis of variousWater, Sanitation and Hygiene policies and their delivery models inIndia, both for urban and rural settings. The sessions will also brieflycover the equity and inclusion needs, realities and ways forward forthese policies and programs.

EXPECTED OUTCOMESBy the end of the 3-day workshop, the participants will have:1. An overview of various policies and programs related to water, sanitation andhygiene in India.2. Exposure to some of the field realities around the implementation of these policiesand programs3. An understanding about the issues to focus, in terms of inclusion and equityaround these policies and programs.

COURSE MODULEOverall, the workshop is planned to have 7 hours of teaching-learning sessions, 6 hours of fieldvisits and around 10 hours of group work and discussion. Out of these, we will approximatelydedicate 4 hours for issues related to drinking water security, 6 hours for issues related tosanitation, 8 for solid and liquid waste management and 5 hours for issues related to hygiene/health and nutrition interlinkages of WASH.

There will be two batches of 40 students each running concurrently.

Chanchal Kumar Modi is Programme Coordinator at Water Aid India office in Bhopal.He has total 9 years of experience in urban area focussed on urban poor. He has doneMasters in Sociology from Delhi School of Economics in 2008.

Ankur Gupta is a development professional having around 13 years of experience ofimplementation of Natural Resource Management, Water, Sanitation & Hygiene(WASH) and local Governance programmes. He has completed his Masters inEnvironment Management from Forest Research Institute, Dehradun.

Hemalatha Patil comes with more than 15 years of experience in WASH sector andcurrently working as a Regional Manager at WaterAid India South office and she hascompleted ten years in WaterAid. Hemalatha has a vast experience working with Bilateraland multilateral agencies working in the field ranging from Agriculture, IrrigationManagement, Water and Sanitation to Education and Health. In her previous assignments,she has successfully demonstrated participatory methodologies in the sector reformsproject and created sustainable WASH models. She was part of few research projects andstudies and has many published research papers.

Er. Puneet Srivastava is WASH Specialist currently working with WaterAid India as Manager-Policy. He is a qualified civil engineer with his masters in ecology and environment and hasbeen working on environmental issues focusing on water supply, sanitation and hygienepromotion nationally and internationally from past 20 years.. He has more than 10publications on issues of relevance in WASH to his credit and has been involved with manycapacity building national institutions of repute (e.g. national and state academy ofadministration, Centre of Excellence for Change, Key Resource Centre etc.) for capacitydevelopment of stakeholders in WASH sector.

Raman VR is a systems and policy expert, with over two and half decades of nationwide experience in India, having a unique association with three flagship missions - National Literacy Mission, National Health Mission and Swachh Bharat (sanitation) Mission. He did his public health training from the University of the Western Cape, South Africa. Currently he is Head of Policy with the WaterAid India, and leads a number of critical research and advocacy initiatives on WASH policies and their linkages to other development sectors, in addition to representing WaterAid in various government policy processes.

Shaili Jasthi is the PME Officer at WaterAid India’s South office. Her expertise spans actionresearch, knowledge management, training and capacity development. Shaili has workedacross several states in India with a range of stakeholders – community groups, local anddistrict administration, state and national governments and multilateral & donor agencies

such as UNICEF, BMGF, USAID, and AusAID.
