Identifying Animals in 4HOnline
Again this year - we are asking 4-H exhibitors to identify their animals in 4HOnline instead of on ID forms. This will cut
out a lot of extra paperwork plus will give us the reports that we need for the fair. Remember that only animals identified
can be shown at our fair. Animals that need to be entered in 4HOnline include swine, cow/calf pairs, breeding beef
(unless you already identified animal at Jan. weigh-in), sheep (breeding only), horse, dairy cattle, bottle lambs,
bucket/bottle calves, poultry, rabbits, pets, meat goats (breeding only), or dogs.
Here is what to do to enter animals in 4HOnline:
1. Go to https://ia.4honline.com and login like you did when you re-enrolled in 4-H. If you have never logged in before
please call the office so we can give you a temporary password. Once in the program you will be able to reset your
password to something that you can remember.
2. Once you are in the program, find your name and click "Edit". That will take you to your Personal Information Screen.
On that screen near the top of the page you will see a tab titled “Animals/Livestock”. Click on the tab.
3. There you will then see a drop down box and any previously entered animals listed. Select the animal you want to
enter and click the “Add Animal” button.
4. Enter the information requested and click the “Save” button. All animal IDs must be submitted no later than May 15th
at 11:59 PM. At midnight the program will shut down and the only animals you will be able to add after that are
rabbits and poultry. Rabbits and poultry can be added until 11:59 PM on July 1st. Make sure that any animal
that you plan to exhibit (with the exception of rabbits and poultry) is on the list before you close out!
For market swine: You will need to come to the office and get your ear tags ($1.25 each) first and then complete
the entry online. NEW for 2016 – State Fair is now requiring ear notches along with the DNA punch tag.
Horse Exhibitors: You will need to upload 4 photos (front view, rear view, left side view, and right side view) to
complete your entry. If you have problems with this, please contact the Extension Office.
For breeding beef: You MUST enter at least one tattoo if you plan to show your heifer at the Iowa State Fair this
also includes market heifers that are showing as breeding. If you enter the calfhood vaccination number or leave
both fields blank, the heifer WILL NOT be eligible for the Iowa State Fair. All fields (including registration number)
must be complete and accurate no later than May 15th. If no registration number is entered by May 15th, the heifer
will only be allowed to show as crossbred.

PROJECT TIP SHEETS
4-H IS BASED ON RESEARCH
2016 DATE and theme: Dive to New Depths
Dates: June 28-30, 2016
Every June, almost 1000 teenagers converge on the campus of Iowa State University for 3 days full of speakers, workshops, mixers, dances, a banquet, and community service activities.
If you've completed 8th grade, you're eligible to attend. You don't even have to be in 4-H to attend this conference! You will get to experience campus life and meet new people from across the state! You will be having fun while learning by doing, dancing the nights away, and serving the community. You will get to learn new things to take back to your community and school, and in the process you might even discover something new about yourself! There are opportunities for you to share your talents with the rest of the delegation through small group discussion, the Conference Chorus, and a Talent Show!
If you have a specific interest in animal science, you might want to look into becoming part of the ROUND-UP track! We'll also have a special track devoted to agronomy, called CSI: Crops.
If you'd like to be part of the team to capture the Conference in photos, join our Iowa 4-H Youth Camera Corps, and bring your camera. We're doing things a little differently this year and you'll get to learn photo skills and put them to work through the workshop series. Please join us June 28-30th for the most incredible three days of your life at the Iowa 4-H Youth Conference!
Iowa 4-H Youth Conference 2016 Registration will open in mid-March. You can register between March and June 1 for the regular registration cost of $175. Endowment Dollars are available, call the office for details!
