Palermo is the capital of the island of Sicily, the largest island in the Mediterranean Sea, and the fifth largest city in Italy. There are a few places in the world like Sicily, where visitors can experience more than two millennia of history, two active Volcanoes (Etna and Stromboli), wonderful beach towns, and culinary excellence. For many centuries Palermo represented the crossroads of the most important civilizations. Nowadays, visitors in Palermo can enjoy the Arab-Norman district, included in 2015 in the UNESCO World Heritage list, which embraces many civil and religious structures dating from the era of the Arabs and Norman dominations. Palermo is also embellished by many other monuments, three famous market districts, and the incomparable beauty of the sea that surrounds the city.
