Beak toolsLook at the birds around you. Have you noticed that the shape of their beaks is very different! The shape of the beak determines the food that the bird eats, as well as how and where it finds it food. Some birds catch small insects while some sip nectar from flowers. Some others eat meat, fish or seeds. Some birds catch their prey in water and some in wet, muddy soil. Some wade in shallow water while feeding. Some catch insects on the ground while others catch them in flight.
Given below are some birds that are seen in Ladakh. Look at the beak of each bird carefully and match the beak to one of the five beak descriptions given. Based on the shape of the beak, what kind of food do you think it eats. Draw a line connecting the bird to the description of the beak and then to the food it eats. Use a different coloured pen for each bird.
