Dear Parents The poem “Bird Talk” helps your child to appreciate birds and their qualities. Please

interact with him/her about the need and importance of protecting the animals and birds.

Encourage him/her to recite the poem and express his/her thoughts and views. Guide

him/her to complete the worksheets.

Learning Outcomes: After completing this chapter, students will be able to:

identify the birds in their surroundings,

recite the poem with suitable expressions,

tell the meaning of new words,

frame short sentences,

draw/ make paper models of birds,

write a dialogue with birds.

Activities for Students.

1. Listen to the sounds of birds and imitate them.

2. Recite your favourite poem/sing a song about birds and animals in your home

language

3. Listen and recite the poem “Bird Talk” with expressions and gestures

4. Draw pictures of birds and colour them or make a paper model of a bird

Summary of the poem: In this poem, two birds, namely Robin and Jay are talking to

each other about people. They feel that people neither have feathers, nor can they eat

beetles. The birds feel that people are not like them and that they are funny.

New words: Beetle (an insect), funny (humorous)

The story “Nina and the Baby Sparrows” will help your child to appreciate Nina’s

concern for the sparrows and their babies. Please interact with your child about the

need and importance of protecting the birds and animals. Encourage him/her to read

the story and express their thoughts and views. Motivate him/her to enact the story.

Help the child to complete the worksheets given below.

5. Keep a little bird-bath for the birds in summer.

Summary of the lesson: This is a story of a little girl Nina, who is very caring towards

the sparrows who have built nest in her house. She does not wish to leave her home to

attend a family wedding because of her concern for them. Her mother finds a solution

for the birds and their babies to be safe. Nina attends the wedding. On returning, she is

very happy to see the sparrows and their little babies safe.
