chemistry in the curriculum. Your description should be completed with
competency standard, basic competencies, topics and subtopics!
Answer:
In this task, I used curriculum used at SMPN 1 Singaraja. At SMPN 1 Singaraja,
there are two different curriculum used, namely KTSP (School curriculum) and 2013
curriculum. The KTSP is used in VIII and IX grade, while the 2013 curriculum is used in VII
grade. The following are the descriptions of chemistry content in the curriculum used at
SMPN 1 Singaraja.
I. Students of JHS grade VII will learn chemistry as the following main competencies
and basic competencies, based on the 2013 curriculum.
The 2013 curriculum consists of main competencies and basic competencies. Later
on, it produces topic and sub topic. The main competencies of 2013 curriculum are
shown below.
a) Respecting and living based on religion believed;
b) Respecting and effectively doing behavior, such as honest, discipline,
responsible, care, tolerance, polite, confidence in interaction with social and
natural environment around the students;
c) Comprehending knowledge (factual, conceptual and procedural) based on
students curiosity about science, technology, art, and culture;
d) Trying, processing and presenting concretely (using, analyzing, assembling,
modifying and creating) and abstractly (writing, reading, calculating and
drawing) based on what students learnt in school as well as learning resources

II. Students of JHS grade VIII in first semester, especially in SMPN 1 Singaraja will
learn chemistry as the following standard competence and basic competencies (still
using the old curriculum):
Standard competence Basic competence
Explaining the concept of particle of
matter
a. Explaining the concept of atoms,
ions and molecules.
b. Relating the concept of atoms,
ions and molecules with the
chemical product in daily life.
c. Differentiating the molecules of
elements and molecules of
compounds.
The standard competence and the basic competence above produce some topic andsub topic:
a. Topic : Particle of matter
Sub topic : Atoms, Ions and Molecules
Students of JHS grade VIII in first semester will also learn chemistry as the following
standard competence and basic competencies:
Standard competence Basic competences
Understanding the uses of chemicals in
daily life
a. Searching information about uses
and side effects of chemicals in
daily life.
b. Communicating information about
uses and side effects of chemicals.
c. Describing natural chemicals and
synthetic chemicals in in food
packaging materials.
d. Describing the properties/ effect of

addictive substance and
psychotropic.
e. Avoiding the influence of addictive
substances and psychotropic. .
The standard competence and the basic competence above produce some topic and
sub topic:
a. Topic : Chemicals in daily life
Sub topic : cleaner
Bleach
Deodorizer
Disinfectant
Drugs
Addictive substances in food
2. Write short description of the content of each topic and subtopic!
Answer:
a. Topic : Characteristic of substance
Subtopic :
Physical change is a change in which no new substance is formed.
Example : ice change become water
Chemical change is a change of substance from one form of matter into
another form of matter. The reactants are placed on the left of the
arrow while the product is located to the right of the arrows.
The separation of mixtures can use several methods such as
crystallization, filtration, distillation, chromatography, etc. They are
physical properties of substance that are going to be separated, for
example particle size, boiling point, solubility, adsorption, etc.
Acid and Base indicators
There are the different characteristic of acid and base
Acid Base

Indicators is needed to determine whether a solution is acid, base. Litmus paper is a
common acid-base indicator. If acids the blue litmus will change become red while
bases the red litmus will change become blue litmus.
b. Topic: The impact of pollution for living things
Subtopic:
Pollution
The act or process of polluting or the state of being polluted, especially the
contamination of soil, water, or the atmosphere by the discharge of harmful
substances
The effect of pollution for living things
The effects of pollution are environment degradation and human health
The solution to avoid Pollution
c. Topic: Global warming and ecosystem
Sub topic:
Greenhouse effect
The reason of occurrence of global warming
The effect to the ecosystem
The solution to decrease the effect of Global warming
d. Topic : Particle of matter
Subtopic :
Atom is smallest particle of element. It cannot be decomposed become simpler matter
using an ordinary chemical reaction. Example: Ion is an atom or combination of
several atoms that has electrical charge either positive or negative. If atom accept the
electron, it will change become negative ion (anion) and also if atom release the
electrons it will change become positive ion (cation). Molecule is small particles from
substance which has their properties. Molecules composed of two or more same or
different atoms.
Example: Molecules: CO2, H2O
Atom : Nitrogen atom, Sulfur atom, Chloride atom.
Ion : Sodium ion (Na+), Calcium (Ca2+).
e. Topic : Chemicals in daily life
7/27/2019 Worksheet 1 Ipan
9/12
Subtopic :
The chemical in daily life is the topic is very close with the students. Students will see
many chemical in environment such as cleaner, fragrance, and pesticides. Also the
addictive substance and psychotropic. It chemical also have negative effect to
environment. There are uses and negative effect to environment:
Cleaner, fragrance and peptides is chemical in daily life we use that. But, the negative
effect of it chemical for environment because it will be pollution of water and soil.
Because, the pollutant in water and soil cant decompose by bacteria.
Chemicals in food can be distinguished into two kinds those are natural and artificial
chemicals:
The natural chemical are chemical from plants or animals such as peppers, sugar, salt
and the others
The artificial chemical are chemicals produced by industry through a chemical
reaction from the certain chemical compounds such as monosodium glutamate,
saccharine, monosodium glutamate.
The addictive substance an psychotropic also the chemicals daily life. This substance
has many negatives effect for human life. But if use correctly it can useful for humans
such as anesthetic.
Narcotic comes from three kind of plants that is Papaver somniferum(opium),
Erythroxylum coca (cocaine) and cannabis sativa (hashish). Generally, narcotics
can be distinguished into four kinds those are depressant, stimulant,
hallucinogen and dependent narcotics.
Psychotropic is a kind of narcotics which are synthetic substance which have
properties of stimulant (amphetamine and methamphetamine) and depressant
(barbiturate and benzodiazepine).

Chemistry for Students in Junior High School: SMPN 1 Singaraja
Chemistry for junior high school is series of chemistry material which is included in
one lesson, natural science. In SMPN 1 Singaraja, curriculum which is used recently in is
2013 curriculum for the 7th grade, and KTSP or school curriculum for the 8th grade.
The 2013 curriculum which is used in 7 th grade consist of 4 main competencies, 4
general basic competencies and several basic competencies related to the content of
chemistry. The several basic competencies related to the content of chemistry cover some
several chemistry topics, namely characteristics of substance, the impact of pollutant for
living things and the global warming and ecosystem. For the 8th grade, there are two
standard competence. The first standard competence which ask students to be able to explain
explaining the concept of particle of matter is learned in first semester of grade VIII. This
standard competence produce one topic namely atom, ion and molecule. The second standard
competence which ask students to understand the uses of chemicals in daily life is also
learned in first semester of grade VIII. This standard competence produce the topic of
chemicals in daily life. Meanwhile, it is used some learning resources in the process of
teaching and learning of junior high school chemistry. Human, books, educational media,
mass media and environment are able to provide supports as the resources of the process of
teaching and learning of junior high school chemistry.
Based on the explanation above, it can be concluded that students in SMPN 1
Singaraja learn chemistry in 7th and 8th grade. The 7th grade learn chemistry based on 2013
curriculum, while the 8th grade learn chemistry based on KTSP curriculum.
