While provision will be made for all instrumentalists who appear, the envisaged repertory will sound especially well on loud winds (thus, cornetts and sackbuts in particular), while players of viols and recorders (favouring the larger instruments in both categories) will also be an asset. The music featured in this workshop will take us to early 17th-century Hamburg, a venue of no small significance for Lutheran music of the time. Hieronymus Praetorius not related to the more famous Michael (1571-1621), but almost contemporary with him and member of a distinguished Hamburg musical family was one of the most significant and interesting composers of the time, as the varied selection of his music which we survey will attest. If resources permit, we will dip into motets in 6 parts ( O bone Jesu), 8 parts (Cantate Domino and the wonderful Nunc dimittis) and 12 parts (Angelus ad pastores and Jubilate Deo) as well as other seasonally appropriate items. More information is available on request if needed (Roger can be reached on 01565 872650 or at [email protected]) including directions to the venue. Because of the tutor’s imminent change of address (no exact date yet known), preferably e-mail the information below to Roger Wilkes ([email protected]) with a copy to the Treasurer, Martin Steward ([email protected]), and pay NWEMF electronically using sort code 09-01-56, account number 79658106, with your name as the reference. If you pay by cheque (payable to NWEMF): please contact Roger Wilkes by phone before posting (to 28 Carlisle Close, Mobberley, Knutsford, Cheshire, WA16 7HD at this stage). Please book as soon as possible, and not later than Wednesday 28 December 2016. We retain applicants’ information so that we can inform them of future events; it is not shared for any other purposes. TIMETABLE 10.00 Arrival.
