I Am Just a Kiwanian by Nelson Tucker

Past Kiwanis International President

I am just a Kiwanian Just like you, you see I get up every morning

To find a new reason to be

To be someone special To a shut-in or a kid

To make the world a better place Because of what I did

You and I are no different

We both share the same belief That living by the Objects of Kiwanis

We give much needed relief

We strive to live by the Golden Rule Believe in our fellow man

We have faith in our future That Kiwanis has a plan

A plan to rid our world

Of famine, grief and strife To give to every human being

A better way of like

So, let’s all work together For every boy and girl The future of Kiwanis

Is serving the children of our world

KY-TN District Partnerships

#KIDS NEED KIWANIS

The KY-TN District has developed partnerships which are designed for the benefit of district members

and the children we serve in our communities. The District Partnership Committee has identified

three service partners which are already structured so Kiwanis members can immediately utilize them

in service to children in our communities. Secondly, the District Partnership Committee will continue

seeking to develop community partners which will help individual members and stretch club dollars.

It is a privilege for Kiwanians to spend time

ringing the bell during the Salvation Army Red

Kettle Campaign. The Salvation Army relies on

money raised to serve more than 25 million

people in need each year.

A District Project to provide mobility trykes to

physically challenged children.

See page 41 for more info

Tap was created to address the lack of home

computer access to children by refurbishing

donated computers. The refurbished

computers are then distributed to children

through Kiwanis clubs in Kentucky and

Tennessee and other Social Agencies.

Page 39: WORKING TOGETHER TO STRENGTHEN THE KY-TN DISTRICT OF

39

HUMAN AND SPIRITUAL VALUES DISTRICT COMMITTEE

During the yule tide season, our local Salvation Army organizations, a designated partner of

Kentucky-Tennessee Kiwanis District, continue to need our help with bell ringing for their Red Kettle

collections.

Ringing bells gives our clubs the opportunity to serve our community while helping the Salvation Army

meet their goals for our community such as providing clothing, security, education, medical needs, to

name just a few.

Many of our clubs traditionally participate in this time-honored annual community service project.

Often SLP groups such as Key Club and/or Builders Club assist Kiwanis Clubs as a K-Family project.

The Kentucky-Tennessee District Kiwanis would like to recognize the efforts of all Kiwanis Clubs that

participate.

The Kentucky-Tennessee Kiwanis District

Special 2020-2021 Amtryke Project

One of the 2020-2021 K-T Kiwanis District projects is the Ambucs/Amtryke program. The Governor has

identified participation in this project as a line item to help you to achieve the Lieutenant Governor

Distinguished Challenge and the Club Distinguished Program.

Division Lieutenant Governors need to encourage clubs to participate in this District project. Clubs may either

choose to award an Amtryke individually, or in partnership with other clubs, or collectively with all clubs in a

Division.

Funding sources may include:

Clubs could individually provide the fund from their service budget or special fund-raising events

designated for the purchase of an Amtryke.

Clubs could partner with other clubs in a Division to collectively fund an Amtryke.

Clubs could recruit funds from local business sponsors.

Clubs can apply for a grant from the K-T Foundation that will support 50% of the funding, up to $250,

for an Amtryke. Forms for grant applications are located on the District web site under the K-T

Foundation header.

NOTE: The K-T Foundation will only distribute funds to another 501 c (3) organization from which the funds

can be managed and controlled. Therefore, if your club does not have a 501 c (3) Foundation, you will need to

partner with another organization that has a 501 c (3) designation. (e.g., another Kiwanis club with a

Foundation, United Way, Good Samaritan Center, etc.)

To learn about Amtryke go to www.ambucs.org. To learn about the process of identifying a recipient, ordering,

and assembling an Amtryke go to https://ambucs.org/rider/wish-list/required-documents.

Should you have questions and/or need assistance to get started, contact an Ambucs chapter listed below. It

is also recommended that you purchase Amtykes through an Ambucs chapter for the best price.

Inter-Club Guidelines

NOTICE: Due to the pandemic that started in February 2020 the 2020-21 guideline will afford KT

clubs to Virtual Inter-Club with the same participation requirements as in-person. To make this work

clubs need to offer their members a virtual meeting platform i.e. ZOOM. Clubs meeting in-person

contact the Host club and ask for an e-mail with a link inviting them to the virtual meeting. The Host

would take note of the interclub members attending and send a text or e-mail confirmation of

attendance. Each club would maintain their records for the year. An official Inter-Club occurs when

members, visit in-person or virtually another club for a scheduled meeting or event.

❖ An official Inter-Club occurs when a minimum of three (3) members from clubs with membership of 39 or less or a minimum of four (4) members from clubs with 40 or more members, visits another club for a scheduled meeting or other event.

❖ Only one substitute for a club member may be used at any event, but may not be used should only one club member attend an Inter-Club.

The period covered for the awards is October 1, 2020, through September 30, 2021. Please note that the number
