This institution is an equal opportunity provider and employer.

One of the “Seven Cooperative Principles” is Commitment To Community.

For Dubois REC, that is not just a slogan, or a feel-good statement. We work hard to find new ways to impact

your community in a positive way.

I would like to invite all our members to participate in our community recycling day on July 20 here at the cooperative headquarters at 1400 Energy Drive, Jasper.

If you have old electronics and stacks of paper that are taking up space in your house, don’t throw them away; bring them to us any time between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. for our recycling event. We have contracted with a company to securely shred and dispose of your paper documents, and your electronics will be recycled so they are not taking up space in the landfill.

As a local business, we know how easy it is to end up with electronics that are out of date and useless. We also understand the mountains of paper that can accumulate

in your home or office. That’s why we’ve organized this community recycling day to work together with our friends and neighbors to make sure these items are recycled and reused — not just thrown in the trash. You can find more information about the event on the following page.

Another way we are working to make our communities more “green” is through our appliance recycling program.

If you have a secondary working refrigerator or freezer in your basement or garage, we will coordinate with Habitat for Humanity to pick it up and recycle it. You’ll pick up $50 for your efforts. Plus, you’ll help the environment and Habitat for Humanity. It’s a win-win-win.

Visit our website, www.duboisrec.com, to get more information and fill out a short form so we can schedule your appliance pick up.

We will continue to look for more opportunities to work with you to impact our community in positive (and green) ways.

Dubois REC is proud to announce two local students will have their artwork featured in the 2019 Cooperative Calendar of Student Art.

Bailey Werner from Jasper was the winner in the third grade category. Danielle Sommerman of Crawford County won the ninth grade division. This is the fourth time Sommerman has won her division.

Werner’s and Sommerman’s artwork was selected from over 2,200 entries from across the state. Since the contest began with the 1999 calendar, 89,010 pieces of art have been entered in the contest by Hoosier students.

Cash prizes were $200 for all grade division winners and $50 for honorable mention winners.

Water heater only Central A/C only Both A/C and WH

Conserve and save!EARN UP TO $75 PER YEAR IN BILL CREDITSMembers can help hold down the cost of electricity by managing their energy consumption with an energy management switch. Conserving energy reduces the amount of electricity used in your home during “peak” periods (the time it’s most expensive to generate). When periods of peak demand occur, Dubois REC can automatically signal your water heater and central air conditioning/heat pump cooling unit to conserve energy consumption for short periods of time.

When you join us in this effort to reduce energy use at key times of the day, we’ll reward you with up to $75 per year in bill credits.

You can choose to have a switch installed on your air conditioner, water heater or both to maximize the bill credits you will receive. There is no cost to you for the installation of the switch.

The switch only operates for very short periods of time, so you should not experience any loss of hot water or temperature change in your home during a “peak” event.

HOW DOES THIS WORK?When energy use is at its peak, a signal will be sent to the water heater and cooling units to conserve energy for short periods of time. You’ll still have plenty of hot water, and the inside temperature of your home shouldn’t be compromised.

HOW IS THIS HELPING?By getting as many people as possible to participate, we’re reducing peak demand when energy is the most expensive, and that means we can help keep energy costs low, as well as help reduce greenhouse emissions.

So, in the end, we all benefit.

Looking toward the futureAre you concerned about the rising cost of energy? We are too. That’s why we’re asking our members to participate in a program to help manage energy use. Fill out this form and return it to our office if you would like to join the effort. You can also go to our website, www.duboisrec.com, and fill out the form online.
