ACADEMIC THESIS DESIGN
Enzymatic Territories & Hybrid Tower
Urban ThesisResearchArchitecture
T h e t h e s i s c o n s i d e r s t h e comprehensive socio-ecomonical, programmatic and architectonic issues to set up an unprecedented conversation between the city of Olbia and its port, testing the poss ibi l i ty of a ser ies of architectural intervensions (act as enzyme) in affecting the forming and evolution of the city.
Key words: p lay and display, exchange and proportion.
[DIS]Playing the Field _ MArch Design Studio 2011-13 3
Above:Drawing of the Series of Enzymatic Territories (where the architectural interventions locate) within the Metropolitan Landscapeorinigal scale 1:15,000Below:Exterior Perspective of the Furniture Workshop and the Tower
As a testing, the two interventions and their correlated parts in the tower (the yacht service centre and the aerial art gallery) reveal the productive exchange between the city and the port: they respectively supply furniture products and art works to the tower for commodity and exhibition use. The tower, in return attracts tourists as a hotel and an impressive advertisement for the local specificities, providing an opportunity for the tourists to know Olbia (or for citizens to know it better) before and during their engagement with the broad urban/suburban landscape. Further interventions in the tower include a theatre, a restuarant, a mussel processing room and a chapel; and in the city include a water quality monitoring lab and a recycling centre, etc.
This drawing overlapped the sections of the Tower which sits next to the port, two resolved architectural interventions in the city centre (a furniture workshop and an art school) and the drawing of their territories. The original scales are 1:200 and 1:2000 respectively.

A p ro j e c t b a s e d o n t h e study of both material and immaterial heritage of the liquor brewing culture. The conversation between t h e o l d a n d t h e n e w i s the key considerat ion in strategy making and concept generating.
The Swellfun Museum is an expansion project of the old brewery at the Shuijing Street, Chengdu. In 1999, relic of the bodega of Yuan, Ming and Qing dynasty was discovered under the ground of the brewery. Due to its huge cultural and propagandist value, the owner of the brewery decided to construct a museum around the brewery to propagate the time-honored brand “Swellfun (Shuijingfang)” and the culture of their company.
The old brewery lies in the middle of the site, occupies an area of 1662 square metres in the 12148 square metres site area.

ACADEMIC DESIGN
A i m i n g t o a c t i v a t e t h e development of a surburban d i s t r i c t a n d t r i g g e r i t s socioeconomic transition, the multi-use high-rise gathers several functions such as a broadcast centre, a library, an archive and a bank. How to mix all these functions coherently in one building and make it attractive/impressive to the public becomes the question we need to answer.

ACADEMIC DESIGN
A conceptual personal dwelling design with the limitation of a 9x27m2 site area. The project plays with the tricky environmental considerations (e.g. the lighting condition) as well as the art of creating space and atmosphere.
