Additional Network Update (2)New Turnpike Interchange

Turnpike is studying: Full Interchange at Clint Moore Road Partial Interchanges: to/from north at Yamato Road

and to/from south at Palmetto Park Road Full interchange at Palmetto Park Road

What should be coded onto the network?Should the new interchange be coded onto all

the alternatives? Or, a new alternative for comparison?

Model ApplicationUsing SERPM v6.02 with 2030 analysis year“Locking” the person trip table

Using the person trip table input to mode choice from the baseline alternative (1a) for all other alternatives

Entire model is run for baseline alternative Only necessary components are run for all

other alternatives (except additional runs for Alternative 1D)

21

Page 22: Working Group Core Team Meeting II February 14, 2008

22

Other AssumptionsThe price of gasoline is broadly included

in the auto operating cost, which is computed on a cost per mile basis

The model assumes that the auto operating cost does not increase over and above the inflation rate through 2030

Transit fares have been modified slightly reflect changes to existing fare structures, except for PalmTran-to-BCT transfers that assume a unified fare

Page 23: Working Group Core Team Meeting II February 14, 2008

Modeling TransitTravel forecasting models are sensitive mainly to

Operating and Service characteristics:Provider : Routing, Stops, Speed, Service frequency, and

Fare StructureUsers : travel time, wait time, out-of-pocket cost, and

transfers

Other characteristics, such as perceived safety, station/stop amenities and reliability are accounted for in the model, but it is not directly sensitive to themE.g., improving “perceived safety” will not increase

ridership

23

Page 24: Working Group Core Team Meeting II February 14, 2008

Transit Speed AssumptionsAll transit service will be mixed-flow unless

operating in exclusive transit lanesTransit speeds in mixed-flow lanes are a

function of the auto speedTransit speeds in exclusive transit lanes are

computed using average speeds for local service and equations in motion with an allowance for signal pre-emption for limited-stop services

24

Page 25: Working Group Core Team Meeting II February 14, 2008

25

Transit FaresPropose to adjust SERPM 2030 fares so that

they reflect current valuesBCT one-way fare from $1.00 to $1.50BCT pass from $2.50 to $2.36PalmTran one-way fare from $1.25 to $1.50PalmTran pass from $3.00 to $3.50

Assume no fare difference between services on exclusive ROW and in mixed-flow

Page 26: Working Group Core Team Meeting II February 14, 2008

Transit Network AssumptionsBased on the 2030 LRTP transit networksModifications for cross county service

integration:Coordinate transit service between northern

Broward and southern Palm Beach CountiesProvide service in “Wedge” area

26

Page 27: Working Group Core Team Meeting II February 14, 2008

Transit Network AssumptionsUsing the modified transit network for all

alternatives except:Alt 1e – apply exclusive transit lanes on University

Drive between County Line Road and Palmetto Park Road

Alts 3c, 3d – apply exclusive transit lanes on SR-7 from Golden Glades to Glades Road and on Glades Road from SR7 to Florida Atlantic University

Alt 4b – apply exclusive transit lanes along Lyons Road between Commercial Blvd and Glades Road and along Glades Road from SR-7 to Florida Atlantic University
