Suggestion Boxes –
YOU CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE
We had an issue on the A23 site
where we were finding empty spray
cans that had been left as litter on the
site.
One of our engineers assistants had
the idea that before spray cans are
given out to the workforce that the
store man puts the initials of that
person on the bottom of the can. If
the spray can is then left on site we
know who the original owner was and
therefore direct the cleaning
operation. The person also won £50
pounds in shopping vouchers as
coming up with the good idea.
Safety Excellence Wheel:
• Communication; Distribution of lessons learnt / improvement suggestions, rewards for the workforce
• Leadership; Innovation introduced My-Zone and GPS along with confidential hotline
• Engagement; Ensuring supply chain inclusion improving workforce communication and display of monthly KPI’s
• Culture & Behaviour; Thorough investigation into all accidents near misses and incidents, use of positive safety intervention to promote good practise
• Competent & Capable People; Health surveillance in place and the designer integrated as part of the site team.

Gain assurances – no
repeat offences
Agree way forward
PREDICT – PREVENT – GET TALKING
Managers Engagement
Sessions All Workforce involved split into working
groups
Each table has a question on safety
“What do we need to do to ensure that
we have a safe February ?”
“ Who do we see to be most at risk ?
and what do we need to do about it ?”
Get each table to feedback and share
their answers
Capture the information and put it to
good use
PREDICT - PREVENT
Spend time, talk to people about their job;
• Express concern
• Highlight hazards / controls
• Discuss what’s good
• Review SSOW together
Focus on ‘consequences’ and your ‘concern’
Ask questions to explore issues
Safety Tours
