Stan Allan speak of architectural drawing as “ the assemblage of spatial and material notations that can be decoded, according to a series of shared conventions, in order to effect a transformation of reality at a distance from the author”.Through the making of the drawing new knowledge emerges and new thoughts occur.

Using compositional principles embedded in a two-dimentional image, launching a series of translatioonal exercises aimed at seeing, describing, and manipulating space. These construcitons are subsequently filtered through lenses of scale, inhabitation, and program as they become architectural responses.

Explicit & Implicit lines: 2D to 3D

Studying the hidden connection in the given painting, and drawing an interpretation.

Abstracting is the act of considering a general quality or characteristic apart from specifi c objects or instance.

Interpreting is the act of providing meaning through performance or execution according to one’s own particular understanding

The idea of explicit, and implicit lines

Rethinking architecture’s role in creating identities of a particu-lar place. Considering formal and experiential implications of: place vs placelessness; regional vs local; singularity vs multiplicity; universality vs specificity.

Instructor: Mireille Roddier University of MichiganAnn Arbor, USA

Detroit Unreal Estate AgencyShrinking cities are looked upon and thought about in terms of loss: real estate value, employment, welfare....Detroit unreal estate agency propose a positive reading: the ecology of the abandon city introduces new values, new opportunities, and a potentially rich reality that can compete and even supersede the market economy.

Detroit is a place of multiplicity, where things have multiple layers but in terms of ethnic diversity it is considered to be a segregated city. This is only true if we look at Detroit from a city level. There are areas in Detroit where diff erent ethnic groups intermingle with one another.Sustaining diversity proposes diff erent interventions in Detroit fueled by ethnic diversity.

Turning the city of Detroit into a urban farm land and back to the nature; where it is hard to realize where an asphalt road starts, and where you are faced my a wild animals

Research went into Michigan wildfl owers, trees, ethnic foods, recipes, and ingredients. Taking the idea of diversity and applying it.

Abandon plots are used for Urban farming to grow organic native plants for cultural specifi c recipes; Green houses will provide farming place in harsh Michigan winters; and large abandon areas will slowly turn into Detroit natural reserve, and hunting ground.
