Audits

Trailer Audit The main objective was to figure out which of the 64 underground trailers

still didn’t have breaks on them. Well checking each of the trailers breaks other information was collected

such as: hitch capacity, hitch type, number of axles, and bolting pattern. Searched the mine for each trailer in order to collect the required

information. Allowed me to get more familiar and comfortable with the mine.

Extensible Belt Audit An audit was done on the

extensible to record the different set ups used for adding belt.

Well undergoing the audit the slusher bolts in the back were also examined to see how much they had loosened over time.

The information collected was used to help with standardization.

Foam Tire Audit

The purpose of the audit was to figure out which pieces of underground equipment had foam tires and which did not.

The information collected is being used to calculate the costs of converting all of our underground equipment to having foam tires.

Grinder Audit

Chelsey, Kyle and I preformed a grinder audit to make sure all underground grinders were up to PCS Standards.

Some of the things we were looking for during the audit included: proper guarding, trigger lock, automatic brakes, and approved discs.

Man-basket Modifications

Two separate modifications were done on the 10’ Man-basket and the Tall Man-baskets.

Custom pitch rails were required on our 10’ Man-basket as per PCS standards

Put sideways fork pockets on the Tall Man-basket to allow for more visibility during transportation.

Had the privilege of working with Kova Engineering to get the modified drawings stamped.

Conveyor Guarding Trial

After a mine safety inspection an ETQ item was created for Take-up conveyors close to the ground.

A guarding trial was to be done on 101 Conveyor covering all pinch points created by the moving parts.

The guarding for the trial has been ordered and will be installed in the near future.

DPM Reduction Program The purpose of the DPM Reduction Program was ultimately

to find a solution for reducing DPM in the mine. The Green Genius was the technology decided on for the

trial. Testing before and after installation any reduction in DPM could be analyzed.

Testing began in 2015 where the last co-op students started to test the Baseline of several pieces of equipment underground.

Once Nick and I started at PSC we took things over.

There was a large learning curve and so the project took a lot of our time but the project was completed having five separate pieces of equipment fully tested.

DPM Reduction Program (cont.) After all the testing was completed data showed positive

results having an average overall decrease in DPM of about 7.5%.

That being said the company has decided to purchase several more Green Geniuses for further testing and to try and quantify other benefits of the green genius.

Cross Conveyor Hitch Restraints Concerns from operations staff lead to the implementation of the cross

conveyor hitch restraints. The restraint is a safety device used well moving the cross conveyor and is

designed to stop the conveyors hitch from falling to the ground. After sourcing what some of the other mines were doing we came up with a

new design to fit our needs. The restraints are quick and easy to install and in the near future they will

be put onto all the cross conveyors around the mine.

Shaft Bottom Swing Gates In order to improve the work environment at shaft bottom, swing

gates were to be installed at each level going down. Since each level was different from one another, four distinct

weldment designs were required for installation.

The swing gates were all bolt on and therefore easy to install.

Myself and 3 hoist crew members worked together to safely install the four swing gates.

Stench Gas Modifications

The Stench Gas project started off small but quickly became one of my larger projects.

The initial request was to source something to cover the blasting cap opening to prevent someone from removing the blasting caps.

After talking with several electricians other issues started to arise.

In the end four modifications were done on the stench gas modules, those being as follows:1. Strengthening of the stench gas box.2. Adding in a lockable switch to each module to allow

each module to be locked out individually.3. Configuring the modules into one assembly for easy

identification of parts.4. Designing a cover for the blasting cap opening.

Stench Gas Modifications (cont.) The new modules are currently out for bid

however, you will see the modifications mentioned roll out in the near future.

Emergency Brine Trailer In order to prevent a brine disaster Andre and

Adam thought it would be a good idea to be prepared with an emergency brine trailer.

The Brine trailer is too act as a tool chest for any emergencies that could happen along the brine line.

Emergency Brine Trailer (cont.) The preliminary design for the trailer has been

completed and after a couple of minor changes the trailer will be sent out for bidding.
