SKYLER JEFFREY FIKE ARCHITECTURE AND ART WORK SAMPLES “Architecture has to be greater than just architecture. It has to address social values, as well as technical and aesthetic values. A Car Warehouse for Jay LenoLos Angeles, CA

The Car Warehouse for Jay leno project is a 10-story post-and-beam structure designed to accommodate the many classic vehicles of the car enthusiast, Jay leno. This third-year project served as a study of cohesively integrating strong design concept, structural design and integrity, and the use of digital media.

Center for a United FaithNorman, OK

Prevalent among religions is the spiritual mindset of separating oneself from the profanities of earth and transcending toward the metaphysical and supernatural. The intent was to create a universal, simple yet powerful space within which believers of many faiths could congregate and worship; this, coupled with the respecting and honoring of other faiths, is the essence of building a community of persons with diverse beliefs.

The Center for a United faith is a worship and community center designed to accommodate Catholicism, Judaism, islam, and Protestantism. This created an interesting design dilemma due to the nature of the religions themselves. However, it provided an avenue for implementing design with intentionality.

Urban AgricultureNorman, OK

a study of the process of farming verticallySENIOR CAPSTONE PROJECT

The purpose of this project was to study the development of agriculture as it relates to urbanization and population density, propose a system which hybridizes the urban setting with agricultural production, develop a program from precedent and research, respond to the needs and desires of a collective and prospective master plan, and lastly, engage in innovate and ideative design which expounds architecturally on the existing Oklahoma City setting set forth by creative architectural speculation.

The goal was to create a culture which values sustainable development in all realms: that is, a sustainable ground for developing culture, a sustained psychology of space and environment (or a space which sustains a positive psychology and energy), a space which reacts to and converses with culture such to sustain a consistent psychology and feel, and, most importantly, a landscape within an urban setting which positively respects the prairiesque nature of Oklahoma and it’s respective agriculture.

Norman Public LibraryNorman, OK

The Norman Public library, as it currently stands, sits along Gray street. With its rapidly growing population and various development, the City of Norman proposed the construction of a new library located away from the downtown setting and closer to surrounding neighborhoods. The project was less of a measure of conceptual design and more about collaborating with the City of Norman to develop a new, feasible, cost-effective, and sustainable city library.

Florida Marlins MLB StadiumMiami, FLHKS ArcHitectS

in 2006, i joined Hks Architects in Dallas, TX. i worked with a team on a design competition for a proposal for the florida Marlins Major league Baseball stadium. The Dance of the SpacesParis, France

ARquITECTum | DANCE SChOOl fOR ThE mOulIN ROugE

design competition

The “Arms”, through an intricate system of motors, pulleys, cables, bent titanium alloy, and structural leD screens, brings to life the Parisian night. Positively supplementing its sistering building it provides not only a place where the art of dancing will be taught but a space that dances itself. furthermore, these transforming arms can become whatever one wants them to be. from a stage where dancers can perform to the seating where crowds gather to watch, the Arms and their supplemental mechanisms transform into the spaces to perform the programmatic functions.

The Dance of the Spaces signifies the integrity of the Moulin rouge and the rich tradition encompassing its 115 years of artful existence. While a possible solution is to place a permanent and static structure within the confines of an enclosed site, another is to let the iconic site breathe with fluid movement and periodic transformation. rather than constructing a building which statically houses function, why not implement an installation which dynamically creates it?
