The CottageThe Cottage is the accommodation that we provide
to placement and reelance designers (places are

The cottage is a brilliant place to stay, its a

and reelancers alike.
It includes:
4 bedrooms
1 large double
3 single rooms.
Kitchen
Dining area
Bathroom
Living room.
The living room has a soa and TV, the kitchen
is ully equipped with utensils and the house issupplied with bedding and toilet roll, you may
just need a ew towels, (unor tunately we dont
provide an internet supply). The rooms are
cleaned every ortnight and there are secure
parking places to use.
SOMEWHERE
TO STAY
We had so much fun living in the
cottage. I made some brilliant friends
who Ill keep in touch with. It wasgreat to have some independence
and explore Yorkshire on the
weekends too.
The cottage is situated approximately 15 minutes
drive away rom Tigerprint. The cottage and studio
are set in West Yorkshire with plenty near by and
loads to keep you busy but Cottingley isnt the best
or public transport unortunately, but once you get
into the neighbouring towns o Saltaire and Bingley
your only train or bus ride away rom the Yorkshire
Dales, Leeds and Bradord, were not too ar rom
Manchester either.
Because the house is in a rural setting your SatNav
may not work. Theres a little map and directions
rom Tigerprint on the next page.
The Cottage address is:

Course: BA Hons Graphic Design
Please describe what
you did whilst on your
placement i.e. briefs
worked on etc.
I got to create paper shoesand handbags, creating new
and innovative shapes (to
be made into a card) I also
got to make a 3D Christmasroom decoration/ light and
a pleated and a puncture
lamp. In store in 2011!
What did you most enjoy about your placement?
The two bries that I was given played on the strengths I
gained at University, but they also pushed and challengedme commercially. The Studio is exciting and has such a
diversity o talent, everybody is keen to help and really
interested in anything new going on. I mostly enjoyed being
able and encouraged to take my concepts (Uni based ideas)
to a commercial level and seeing my designs go rom an
idea into an actual product and then maybe into M&S!Its great!

Please describe what
you did whilst on your
placement i.e. briefs

Whilst on placement I got to
work on a Stationary brie,
designing a recipe book, addressbook and shopping list etc or a
particular look. I was then able
to work on the New Designers
brie, designing cards, POS and
packaging using typography
and illustration.
What did you most enjoy
about your placement?
I loved being able to experiment,
use oil and itter or the frst time,
this opened up a whole new world
or the way my work looked. I also
learnt how to mock up properly
and see my work in print. It is a
really exciting environment to work
in and its made even better by the
people you get to work with who
have a huge amount o talent.

I worked on a variety o
typographic Christmas cards which
were then used in the Christmas
range. I also had the opportunityto design a range o illustrative
and hand rendered type cards or
a New Designers range - the only
requirement was that the images
were all in black and gold only.
The challenge o using my designs/illustrations or a real design
brie was also really exciting. Its nice to see a design created
and properly mocked up. I also loved living in the cottage and
meeting other art and design graduates. I made lots o riends!
