Modern Traffic Analytics
The City of Detroit, Michigan’s Traffic Engineering
Department was looking for a way to map all city traffic
signals on an interactive map and then use that map
and a database to describe, assign and manage all work
orders associated with those signals.
MS2’s Work Order Tracking System (WOTS) manages all
aspects of work orders from an initial call to the City that
a light is malfunctioning, to assignment of work tasks to
field crews, to project details and close out of the project.
A critical function of the software is to manage the costs
and budgets of the department. Now supervisors have a
way to track traffic signal repair costs in a single, web-based
portal easily accessed via any common web browser.
The WOTS also stores images of each signalized intersection making problem identification easier for
field crews prior to getting to the site. The software can also store engineering plans and drawings.
The WOTS also creates management reports that the City uses to track inventory and keep track
of budgets. The City creates cost sheets for labor, maintenance, equipment and signs which can
be printed out using MS2’s WOTS. The WOTS application from MS2 allows agencies to maximize
information available to them to make critical infrastructure repair and maintenance decisions.
