This week has seen many of our students and faculty return to an active/busy schedule as the semester progresses. 2019 Texas Ag Forum Early this week, I attended the 2019 Texas Ag Forum held on Monday, March 18, 2019, at the Hilton Austin Airport Hotel in Austin, TX). Topics covered included major changes in the new farm bill, the importance of agricultural trade, and implications for price outlook for U.S. meats, grains and fibers. During the program, Dr. James Richardson , who recently retired as Co-Director of the Agricultural and Food Policy Center, was honored for his many contributions to Texas and US agriculture International Center for Agribusiness Research and Education On Tuesday, Dr. John Nichols met with Dr. Clare Gill and myself to provide an update on the International Center for Agribusiness Research and Education (ICARE) project. This project is a long-standing partnership between Texas A&M University and the Armenian National Agrarian University that has been in existence for many years. Dr. Nichols provided background on the development of curriculum for an Undergraduate Degree in Agribusiness, and a Masters of Agribusiness, how the project has evolved over time, and some interesting recent and future opportunities. Seminar Speaker Today, at noon, in AGLS room 129, Dr. Alan Ker from the Department of Food Agricultural and Resource Economics, University of Guelph, Canada, will be presenting a seminar on- 'Is There Too Much History in Historical Yield Data'. There is also a Meet and Greet session scheduled from 3:00 pm to 4:15 pm in AGLS 129, where students can interact with Dr. Ker. Applied Economics Research Symposium Hopefully everyone saw an announcement yesterday sent out by Brandi Blankenship for Michael Black about the upcoming 5th Annual Applied Economics Research Symposium (AERS) to be held next Friday. The event kicks off with morning coffee in the AgriLife Center from 8:30-9:00 AM. Please plan to attend, the schedule looks to be very interesting. There are two keynote speakers this year, Dr. Daniel Phaneuf from the University of Wisconsin - Madison, and Dr. Sarah Jacobson from Williams College. In addition, there are four student presentation sessions on Agriculture, Energy and Transportation, Health and Development, and Policy. I hope everyone had a great spring break last week. The expected start date for this position is August 16, 2019, or earlier. Minimum qualifications include i) an earned Ph.D. from an accredited institution in Statistics or related discipline, with an emphasis in biostatistics or agricultural statistics, or ii) an earned Ph.D. from an accredited institution in an Agriculture-related discipline, with teaching or consulting experience in agricultural statistics at the time employment begins.
