GOSPEL Matthew 26. 1-35 On the first day of Unleavened Bread the disciples came to Jesus, saying, “Where do you want us to make the preparations for you to eat the Passover?” Jesus said, “Go into the city to a certain man, and say to him, ‘The Teacher says, My time is near; I will keep the Passover at your house with my disciples.’” So, the disciples did as Jesus had directed them, and they prepared the Passover meal.

VIRTUAL GOOD FRIDAY TAIZÉ WORSHIP SERVICE Tomorrow at 6:33 p.m. via Facebook Video This will be a service provided by our sister church, Greenland Hills, in the tradition of Taizé, a meditative service in which short songs repeat music and phrases several times. The service will create space to reflect on the stories of Jesus' betrayal and crucifixion. We'll sing together, hear the Gospel read, and hold space for this difficult, but important story of our faith.

Prior to the service you are invited to create a simple prayer space in your home with a candle, Bible, prayer card, or other items that bring you peace and meaning. We hope to “see” you at this powerful service that will prepare you for the celebration of the resurrection of Jesus on Easter Sunday.

A NEW CHURCH EASTER CELEBRATION! Easter Sunday is the high holy day of our Christian faith. We so hope you will join us for our online worship service when we will remember the resurrection of Jesus and the promise of new life for all of us; yesterday, today and forever.

Now more than ever, in this time of pandemic and economic crisis, we need to hear a word of hope for all of us, and our church needs your presence with us online. There is no more important message than that of the Paschal Mystery, church language for the story of life, death and resurrection. The true and enduring message of our faith is that when we confront our fears of death we discover new life.

While we are living apart in order to be safe with each other we do not have to be alone and isolated. So, join us, won’t you, as we celebrate in song, prayer, the word proclaimed, communion and profound joy.

Then, following worship, gather your comfort snacks and drinks and join us for a celebratory Easter Sunday Reception. We will “see” you there!

Scripture for This Time of Pandemic and Economic Crisis

Therefore, since we are justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have obtained access to this grace in which we stand; and we boast in our hope of sharing the glory of God. And not only that, but we also boast in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, and hope does not disappoint us, because God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit that has been given to us.

Prayer For Peace in Anxiety During the Coronavirus Pandemic

Loving God, we come to you full of anxiety about what may happen in the coming days and weeks. Shower us with the peace Jesus promised to his disciples and make us into steady pillars for those around us. In this time of uncertainty and epidemic, wake us up to the reminder that we are not alone.

Even as we are asked to keep our distance from others, help us to find ways to reach out to those who need our support. We pray especially for those whose incomes and livelihoods are threatened. For the children who will miss meals due to school closures. For those already isolated, lonely and scared. Loving God give them your peace, and through our hands ensure they have what they need.

Sustain, strengthen and protect all caregivers. Bless them as they offer compassionate care and show selfless courage in the face of risk.

Remind us, each time we wash our hands, that in our baptism you call us to let go of our fears and live in joy, peace, and hope. Amen.
