The Sanctuary Lamp The Sanctuary Lamp near our...
Tabernacle burns this week
In Loving Memory of
JENNIE & FRANK SACCO
Word Above Us (Verbum Supernum)
The Word descending from above, though with the Father still on high, went forth upon His work of love, and soon to life’s last eve drew nigh.
He shortly to a death accursed by a disciple shall be given; but, to His Twelve Disciples, first He gives Himself, the Bread from Heaven.
Himself in either kind He gave; He gave His Flesh; He gave His Blood; of flesh and blood all men are made; and He of man would be the food.
At birth, our Brother He became; at board, Himself as food He gives; to ransom us He died in shame; as, our reward, in bliss He lives.
O saving Victim! Opening wide the Gate of Heaven to us below! Our foes press on from every side-- Your aid supply, Your strength bestow.
St. Thomas Aquinas

ASAP Do you think you know
what the abbreviation
“ASAP” means?
Well, think again.
What if it really means, “Always Say A
Prayer”? So, if there’s work to do and you
have to hurry and scurry-ASAP.
In the midst of family chaos when quality time
is rare-ASAP. When it seems that your wor-
ries are more than you can bear-ASAP.
Remember, God knows how stressful life can
be, and He wants to ease your cares-ASAP.
Whose House is This?
W hose House is our Parish Church,
God’s or ours?
The answer is Yes! Both! Our Church is
God’s House because it is the house, the
holy place, where God dwells among us. It
is also the place where we who are God’s
People and the Mystical Body of Christ on
earth, come together
as His Church.
It is impossible for us to contain or imprison
God in a structure built by human hands.
Yet, in His awesome love, God has “pitched
His tent” and chooses to live right here in
our Church, in the Tabernacle.
When we who, in Baptism, are made
Children of God and members of God’s
Church, gather in our Parish Church and join
our Priest around God’s Holy Word, at our
Baptismal Font, and at the Lord’s altar, God
chooses to dwell here too.
The God Who created the night sky and
adorned it with stars, the God for Whom the
highest mountains are nothing but bits of
mud squished between Divine Toes, and for
Whom vast oceans are merely puddles, has
no need of a sanctuary or temple.
But we, the people God loves from before
time began, need a holy place where we
can come together to share and remember
in Word, Sacrament, and other sacred rites
the amazing truth that we are the “living
stones” of the Church, whose flesh and
blood bears witness to Jesus in a way even
more significant than Church art, architecture,
bricks or mortar.
Happily, we have such a holy place, it’s our
Parish Church! This means that it’s our
obligation to lovingly care for this holy
place. Our Parish Church isn’t some kind of
“holy” meeting hall. It’s not a cafeteria, a
place where you eat and drink. It’s not a
park, where you bring or walk animals.
It’s not a subway platform, where you rush
around, or a place to have loud conversations
or talk on your cell phone. It’s a holy place, a
sacred place, a Holy Land right here in Mid-
Town Manhattan, where the Body of Christ is
present, the Voice of Christ rings out, and
where the Sacrifice of Christ, the Holy Sacrifice
of the Mass, is offered and shared.
It’s every parishioner’s clear responsibility
to show reverence in and for our Parish Church.
But, reverence also includes respect and
consideration for your brothers and sisters
in Christ. This kind of reverence is the love
you show when you realize that each person
who comes to Church and gathers with you
around the table of the Lord’s Word and
Sacrament is a living stone who builds up
this spiritual house. This reverence is also
the wonder you experience by knowing
that here, in our Parish Church,
the Living God truly
lives among
all of us.

Prayer Requests
WELCOME! As we end the month of
June, Fr. Antony Alfred leaves
on vacation and we welcome Fr. Benjamin Doh Gawu.
Fr. Benjamin is a priest of
the Diocese of Ho in the Volta Region of Ghana.
He was ordained to the Priesthood in 2011.
After ordination, Fr. Benjamin worked in different
capacities in remote parts of Ghana, expanding the
frontiers of the Church to areas where there was previously no resident priest. He also served as a
Parochial Vicar and as assistant Headmaster in the Rijnbeek Junior Catholic School.
Father Benjamin is currently pursuing further
studies at the Pontifical Institute of Liturgy in Rome.
We ask God’s Blessing on Fr. Benjamin’s Priestly Ministry to our Parish Family during the summer
months.
A Prayer For Fathers
God Our Father, we give You thanks
for our fathers and for all fathers,
young and old. We pray for young
fathers: May they find the courage
and perseverance to balance their
work, family, and faith with joy and sacrifice.
We pray for fathers around the world whose
children are lost or suffering: May they know
that the God of Compassion walks with them in
their sorrow.
We pray for men who are not fathers but still
mentor and guide us with fatherly love and
advice.
We remember our own fathers and
grandfathers who are no longer with us: May
they live with You forever and still nourish us
with their love. AMEN.
