Biographical Information
The Green family of Worcester is well-known for its pubUc service and contributions to the city.Less well-known locally are the accomplishments of Andrew Haskell Green, who was the forcebehind the consolidation of New York City noe hundred years ago. In 1868 Andrew HaswellGreen conceived the idea of consoUdation of the five boroughs, Manhattan, Bronx, Brooklyn,Queens, Richmond, into a single political entity, the City of New York. For the next thirty yearshe worked to make this vision a reahty. In addition, he oversaw the construction of Central Parkin New York, and the creation of the New York Public Library.

The collection consists of a single letter from Rudolph W. Giuliani, Mayor of New York, to theWorcester Historical Museum on the occasion of a program in tribute to Andrew Haswell Greenin November, 1998.
