Tai chi chuan and qigong are Chinese internal arts focused on generating and channeling internal energy, or qi (pronounced cheethroughout the body to generate force and promote health. The movements of tai chi and qigong are smooth, steady and circular. Tand qigong students are trained in breathing exercised, fluidity drills and qi-building exercises. The slower pace and more gentlemovements of tai chi and qigong routines make these arts particularly well suited for adults and seniors interested in increasingflexibility, range of movement or lung capacity.

Instructor BiographySifu Joshua Blakeslee has been training in the martial arts for over 20 years. Sifu Joshua, is a direct student of Grandmaster Glenn Wilson and a member in good standing of the Pai Lum Tao International White Dragon Warrior Society (W.D.W.S.). Sifu Joshua is thOhio State W.D.W.S. representative and has served as the W.D.W.S. state representative for Indiana and Rhode Island; and the headinstructor of the Malones Gymnastics Kung Fu/Wushu program in Lafayette, Indiana. In addition to Pai Lum Tao Kung Fu, Tai Chi &Qigong, Sifu Joshua has trained in: Chank chuan (longfist) kung fu, eagle claw kung fu, wing chung kung fu, Shorin-ryu and Goju-r

karate and Korean art of Chungmudo.

Kung fu (also called wushu) is a Chinese martial art emphasizing flexibility and the use of internal force. Chinese kung fu began in Shaolin Temple around 527 C.E. and is almost 2,000 years old. There are many different types of kung fu; some imitate animals sucthe dragon, snake, mantis or crane, while others are named for a type of movement, like the northern long fist routines. Kung fumovements are circular and rely on internal force to generate power. Kung fu students are trained in striking with hands and feet, sjiao close quarters grappling and chin na (joint-locking and manipulation). Intermediate and advanced students may receive instrucin Chinese weapons including the staff, spear, broadsword, straight sword, halberd, etc. The kung fu program at the WoosterCommunity Center provides instruction in traditional Pai Lum Tao kung fu. Our program is designed to accommodate students of aages and experience levels. No prior martial arts training is necessary. Family group participation is encouraged!
