ABOUTOur goal is to educate clients on all aspects of wood flooring including the life cycle and realized renewability of selecting wood flooring with a thicker wear layer.

2,350The Janka hardness test measures the force required to embed a .444 inch steel ball to half its’ diameter in wood. It is one of the best measures of the ability of a wood species to withstand denting and wear. We encourage you to select a specie higher on the chart where high heel traffic is more prevalent.

Hardness Chart
The dimensional change coefficient can be used to calculate expected expansion and/or contraction in wood species. For best results, a wood floor will perform best with interior temperatures 60-80° F with a relative humidity range of 35-55%.
