Happy March to the Club. Looking ahead we should have some opportunities coming our way to give back to our communities as the weather warms up. Until then, I encourage all of you to send me any charities, churches, and youth groups that are important to you so I can get a broader scope of outreach to find as many diverse groups as possible to support. If you have any suggestions, shoot me a line at [email protected] and I’ll handle the rest from there!

The March meeting of the Saturday Morning Furni-ture Makers Group will feature a small band sawn box built by John Twedt. It has good examples of inlay done on the scroll saw. An oval medallion is installed with a router, another form of inlay. The outside edge is done in string inlay. John will bring along all the jigs necessary to complete the project so that you can see how it is done. A rounded bor-der for a table will also be shown that is made with round veneer banding and segmented pieces. Hope to see you there on the 14th of March at 9:30 AM at the Woodsmith Store.

Library NewsEugene Harms, Librarian

Thank you for all who attended the past two meet-ings and completed the survey card. The answers to “What woodworking topics interest you in book or DVD format?” were as diverse and alike as the DMWA members. I want to highlight some items in the library that focus on common themes of the re-sponses. Safety was a commonly expressed topic of interest on the survey. When people enter my shop, I want them to enjoy their time. It is very hard to enjoy the shop if you get hurt, so safety is the first rule in my shop. Check out Marc Adams Woodshop Safety DVD from the library.

DMWA member Tom Brumback’s presentation on dust collection dur-ing the February general meeting was very timely, as most of our shops have limited ventilation in these winter months. Bob Hunter, along with Tom, produced an article, “Tool-Triggered Dust Extractors” in WOOD

magazine (Dec/Jan 2019/2020). Tom uses the Dylos DC1100-PRO-PC Air Quality Monitor/Particle Counter from the DMWA library for testing.

Workshop Dust Control: Improve the air quality in your woodwork-ing shop with this up-to-date manual on dust collection. Get wood dust under control with tips for finding the right shop vacuum, dust collector, and air scrubber. Includes practical solutions for making tools work cleaner. Learn

how to layout and install a central dust unit that will capture dust and wood chips at the source, direct them into a central can for disposal, and then return filtered air to the shop. Other collection methods such as whole shop air filtration and attaching a shop-vac to tools are included. Three plans for different air scrubbers that readers can build them-selves are also detailed. These methods make clean up easier, leaving more time for woodworking, and, more importantly, help woodworkers avoid known lifetime health hazards, such as nasal and lung cancer, that are caused by tiny wood particles and abrasive dust.

6

Woodshop Dust Control: Provides all the information woodworkers need to protect themselves from wood dust -- a serious health hazard. This completely revised color edition includes charts and graphics, up-to-date information on the latest

products and examples of actual shop systems.

Marc Adams Woodshop Safety DVD: Is a great re-source to newer woodwork-ers and seasoned experts alike. Marc Adams School of Woodworking was started in the early 1990’s in Franklin, IN and has

been attended by members of DMWA members. This DVD covers the safe use of tools and shop practices.
