Woodville Community Dog Training Centre Newsletter December 2017
…. from the President
Last Sunday was the final class for 2017. My goodness where has this year
gone!?
It was a great morning and it was wonderful to see so many of you come along
for our fun Christmas break up class. Also nearly everyone who received a
graduation ribbon or Achievement Award was present to have it given to them by
the Mayor of the City of Charles Sturt, Angela Evans. It was so good to see how
successful you all have been. Angela is a fantastic supporter of what we do at the
club and it was a great pleasure to have her join us.
I wish to relate a story of something that happened that morning. A member
came up to me and said that she was so thankful to club because coming to us
had saved her beautiful black dog. She had adopted him as a rescue dog and
although happy at home he was extremely fearful when out, particularly of other
dogs.
I discovered later that she worked her lovely dog alongside her class for quite a
few weeks as he was too fearful to join in. Her devotion and persistence enabled
her to graduate from Grade 3 at the end of November. She said that the
wonderful people who helped her train her dog had saved him. She then handed
me a $50 donation for the club.
I was incredibly moved by her story and her generous gesture and a few tears
welled up as I hugged her. I was so proud of what our wonderful instructors had
helped her achieve.
There are other stories of course and they all take away that negative feeling I
get when the radio comes on at 7:00 am Sunday morning. Why wouldn’t I not
want to spend my Sunday mornings here?
On behalf of all our great volunteers I wish you, your families and most
importantly your four legged friends, a Merry Christmas and a safe and
prosperous New Year.
I look forward to seeing you all when classes restart on Sunday 04 February
2018.

Rules A copy of the Centre’s constitution is available from the Registrar
The Centre’s Ground Rules have been made with consideration given to Public Liability.
1. All members must wear their membership badge, and be finan-cial to attend class.
2. All dogs must be on lead from 9:00 am Sunday, and during all classes, unless you are given permission by an Instructor.
3. Dog owners/handlers are responsible for any injury to another dog, or owner/handler where their dog is involved.
4. A dog who has bitten, or shown undue aggression, must be reported to the Chief Instructor of the day.
5. Bitches in season are not allowed on the grounds during train-ing sessions.
6. Generally accepted social behaviour is expected of all mem-bers/attendees.
7. Classes are held on Sundays from February to December, ex-cept on LONG WEEKENDS.
8. Current vaccination certificates must be shown to the Registrar when joining, and upon renewal of membership every 12 months, or when due.
9. Dog owners/handlers are to wear covered footwear during clas-ses on the grounds. Bare feet, and open footwear, are not per-mitted.
10. We use positive reinforcement training, therefore excessive reprimands such as yelling, hitting, or kicking of dogs, are not to be used by dog owners/handlers.
11. Dog owners/handlers are asked to use a Martingale/training collar for the comfort, and well-being of their dog during train-ing. Check chains, and slip collars, are not to be used in class. Their general use is discouraged as chains are intimidating, and can cause significant harm to your dog.
12. Activity equipment is to be used only when owners/handlers have been instructed in its use by an Instructor.
Weather Policy
Woodville Community Dog Training Centre does not have an official weather poli-
cy, the decision of whether or not you attend classes is up to you and your pooch!
When weather conditions are extreme, modified classes will be conducted with the
health and welfare of members, and dogs, in mind.
