Task 2:

Reading - Write a WHAT/HOW/WHY paragraph answering the following question on the most recent book you have read:

How has the writer used symbolism in the text to interest you as a reader?

Success Criteria:

WHAT: select a quote which shows how a symbol has been used in the text - eg. in Animal Farm the symbol of the whip represents the brutal power over the animals.

HOW: How has the writer used symbols effectively? For example when the whip is removed from use and then reused in Animal Farm the reader becomes aware that brutal power has been reinstated.

WHY: why has the writer used this method for this effect? Does it teach you something or is it to highlight a key point?

Task 3:

Creative writing - you have entered a story writing competition in which you have to write the opening of a story entitled “The Worst Holiday.” Plan your story before writing.

Success Criteria:

Show not tell - describe the holiday location in detail using ambitious vocabulary and sensory language.

Structure your story so that you reveal the worst thing that happened at the end.

Stick to a narrative viewpoint eg. first person, third person throughout your story.

SCIENCE Task 1: Your topic for this term is ‘Sustainable Earth’. Write two descriptions of what the Earth might be like in 50 years time. In one scenario imagine that people continue to live unsustainably and produce a lot of waste and greenhouse gases and in the other imagine that people move to using renewable energy resources and recycle most of their waste.

Task 2: Electricity can be generated using either renewable and non-renewable energy resources. Explain the advantages and disadvantages of using each of the following type of energy resource:

Task 3: Biodiversity is linked to the number of different types of plants and animals that live in a certain area. Areas that have high biodiversity have many different types of organisms living in a small area, examples of high biodiversity include the rainforest and coral reefs. Explain the impact that humans have had on high biodiversity areas.

Online Task: The Earth formed around 4600 million years ago. When the Earth formed it already had an atmosphere present. Task 3. Identify three areas in the world where borders have caused conflict (these can be either man-made or natural), what have been the impacts of the conflict? What solutions do you think can be put into place to try and reduce the impacts. Examples can include Sudan and South Sudan, and Russia and Ukraine.

Task 4. Imagine you are a teacher for the day. Your task is to create a lesson for new year 7 students joining Woodside. Your lesson should include a ‘Do now’ activity that students get on with as soon as they enter your classroom. You will then need to create an activity for students to get on with for the main part of the lesson and finally a plenary to consolidate your students' learning. Your lesson can be about any geographical topic. Examples include

DRAMA Stage Designers Lesson 2: Different Stage Layouts

Task 1

What stage configurations are you familiar with? Think about the last time you saw a performance. What was the design of the theatre? Were you sat all around the stage? Were you sat directly opposite the stage? You might know the name of the type of configuration.

-Instructions; Carry out each of the following exercises for 30 seconds each, no rest in between each exercise. Once all 6 exercises are completed you can have 1 minute rest, you will then complete all 6 exercises again back to back. Finally have a 1 minute rest again and then complete all of the 6 exercises back to back for the last time. (use a timer on your phone/clock to time your 30 seconds of each exercise and your 1 minute rest periods. Attempt to carry out each exercise as quick as you can with high intensity +good form).

-Design your own home circuit for yourself. This must total 20 minutes and contain at least 6 different exercises/stations (with rest periods) that you can do at home. The circuit plan should also include a good warm up and cool down that you have created.

Once you have created your home circuit plan please send to your teacher and have a go at doing it!

-Can you review the circuit and give yourself feedback and make amendments to improve it for next time?

Interior Design

Draw a birds eye view of your living room. Include the position of the windows, doors and radiators. Next place your furniture into the room (use the key provided to help you show different types of furniture) If you can take pictures of the room.

Now think about how you could improve your room?

Think about the following:

Paint colours

Wall coverings

Produce a mood board showing the examples you have researched.

Jewellery Design

Choose a musical artist you like (singer, musician, dance group, band…) and design an accessory or piece of jewellery that would be worn when performing a particular song. You must think about how the design would COMPLIMENT and work with the THEME of the song/artist. Remember it can’t fall off when they are performing, it must be secure!!

Annotate your drawing (make notes) to explain the choice of materials and how/why the piece would be worn.

Second task:

Research what the production/manufacturing process would be to make the design. What processes would be required? (e.g. how would glass beads be made?) Make a note of how long the accessory/piece of jewellery would take to make, and roughly how much it would cost to produce.
