that we allow people to not do their jobs that they volunteer for but just cut them a little slack when making your requests. The volunteers that I just talked about do a lot of jobs for us; one of them is Coaching your chil-dren. We require ALL coaches to take a Nation-ally recognized Coaches certification class and we require them to pass a back ground check. We want the most qualified people in position of au-thority over your children, we want to make sure that everyone that comes in contact with your children to be the most upstanding. Now, speaking of positions of authority…As the years have gone by and new associations form, we have had a fair amount of dealing with people that are here for reasons other than we think are in the best interest of your children. To further address some of those issues, the WAA Board of Direc-tors after several months of study writing and re-writing, on Monday August 10th, passed a resolu-tion that creates a new Code of Conduct for per-sons of Authority within WAA. This policy was put into place to help gain control of the process of recruiting children for competing programs. That Policy is published elsewhere in this news-letter, this policy will be enforced through a proc-ess where when taking any position of authority within WAA that person will be required to sign a document stating that they agree to abide by that policy and that the policy exists as a condition of their appointment to the position that they seek. As time progresses here, the East Ridge Athletic Association continues to draw members that were formerly WAA members, that is a concern to us because it depletes our numbers and makes some of our programs less viable and the costs that we have to run this organization will be divided by less people making all of the sports just a little more expensive, we are working on ways to man-age that cost increase and you may see some dif-ferences in things that we do, we will however

(Continued from page 1)

continue to provide you with the very best programs that could possibly be available. If you are considering taking your family to ERAA, please consider that WAA takes children from all areas of Woodbury no matter where the children will attend high school. WAA is a community based program and we feel strongly that especially in the developmental or house programs that your children’s experience will be bet-ter if the program they participate in is stronger and better able to serve the needs through numbers, al-ready we are seeing that ERAA has drawn enough numbers from WAA and CGAA that in Girls basket-ball that now none of us have enough numbers to have a really viable program, we are working to make sure that your children do not suffer in their experience be-cause of that. One of solutions to future financial issues is to apply for Grants, we currently are researching several pro-posals that would assist us in that process. We are looking for some volunteers to assist in work in the grant writing process, we are looking for individuals with desire and maybe some experience writing Grants, we currently are looking at a program that as-sists in that endeavor, and that program includes train-ing that would equal about half the College credits needed to become a CRFE which is an actual certifi-cation. If you are interested in helping us in this proc-ess, please call me anytime, I would be more that happy to discuss this with you. 651-328-4628. The last thing for my report this month, the school year is upon us, High School Sports are in progress, there really are very few things more electrifying than being in the Stands for a High School Sporting event. If your children are interested in Sports, and you want to see that interest peak, encourage them and attend with them to the many events that will take place dur-ing the coming school year. Please come out and sup-port the School of our choice during the coming year.

The WAA Woodbury Track Club had strong repre-sentation this season as we enjoyed our renovated home stadium at Woodbury High School. Our in-house program trained with over 175 participants and our traveling program had almost 50 partici-pants. The club had a strong showing at its three Woodbury Home meets. The final WAA Home track meet took place on Tuesday, July 14th with our season ending with our annual ice cream social and awards ceremony at Ojibway Park on Thursday, July 16th. If you were unable to attend the awards ceremony, you can contact Corey to arrange picking up your child’s medal. A small amount have been left at the WAA building were you can just stop by, leave your athlete’s name with the front desk and collect their medal. A large number of athletes competed in and qualified for the USATF and the AAU Junior Olympic Track & Field Meets, with several of them advancing to finals. Woodbury also had a strong participation level in both the Stillwater and North Star Meets. Woodbury’s Team Woodbury can now be proud to announce our first two individual All-Americans that medaled at Nationals. Molly Smith took 8th place in the 1500 meter run with a time of 5:44 and Johnna Patterson, daughter of head Coach, John Patterson, placed 5th in the 3000 meter with a time of 11:57. Thank you to all of our dedicated parents who do-nated their time and efforts in volunteering at our home meets. Your efforts were greatly appreciated by both the Coaches and the Club. A special thank you to all of our coaches who do-nated many hours and a lot of effort to our program! A thank you has to go out to so many people. The equipment is organized and equipment bags for 70-80 teams are prepared by Mark Moore and Gregg Miller. We have a commissioner for each in-house age group and they organize teams and re-cruit coaches. Coaches who are parents who get involved in children’s lives are unbelievable. Thank you to all of you. Without your involvement the season will not happen. Also a thank you to every-one who helped out with concessions, apparel and fields at the in-house tournament, you made the tournament a great success. that we allow people to not do their jobs that they volunteer for but just cut them a little slack when making your requests.

Examples of no programs include but are not limited to: hockey and lacrosse. Procedure for Reported Violations: Upon report of a violation in writing to the Ex-ecutive Director of WAA, the party alleged to have violated the conflict of interest policy shall attend the following meeting of the Board of WAA. Where did summer go, did it ever arrive? Fall Sports are is full swing, if your children haven’t started school yet they will shortly and time rolls on. I hope that your summer and fall experiences have been enjoyable and rewarding. WAA operates two pull-tabs sites in Woodbury, one at Chammp’s and one at Throwbacks. We make enough money each year to basically pay for the Scholarships that we provide to those that can’t af-ford to play our sports otherwise. Currently the owners of Chammp’s are worried that our being in their establishment is not getting them enough expo-sure and business return. WE NEED YOUR HELP! If you dine at Chammp’s, please tell them that you would like to see WAA pull tabs stay in that site. Maybe if they hear it enough in the month of September, just maybe they will sign another agree-ment for us to continue. Please say something to the Hostess or server so that they know that WAA does patronize their establishment. The challenges that the WAA Board of Directors and each of our Sport Specific volunteers face each day are very time consuming and take a great deal of dedication by a large volunteer force. Almost every day, someone makes a comment to me in relation to the work that people do and indicate that they think these people are paid to do their jobs. Please be aware that 99% of the work that is done for the fami-lies of WAA is done by volunteer families within WAA. We want you to know and understand that when someone doesn’t make immediate contact with you to address any issue, they just may be a little busy with their own life. Please don’t take it to mean
