    Call us home

For many, living on campus is part of the college experience. Strong bonds and lifelong friendships are created through the shared experience of campus life. For campus residents, there are no hassles with transportation or parking, and classrooms and other facilities are just steps away from where our students live. The Village at CSU Stanislaus is decidedly not a typical dorm. With the choice of spacious single, double, or triple occupancy suites or single-occu-pancy apartments, students can pick the one thats right for them. Privacy, yes, but Village life is anything but dull; with dozens of organized activities from mixers to dances students can be as involved as they want to be. The Village boasts two swimming pools, a spa, a total of seven coinless laundry facilities, a computer lab, a study hall, recreation room, sport courts, fitness center, and a new dining hall complete with an outdoor patio.

    International education

CSU Stanislaus students can take an internship in France, visit Malta, apply for a scholarship to China, or spend a summer in Prague. As an example, in a single semester, CSU Stanislaus students were recently studying in Spain, Israel, France, Canada, Australia, and Wales. Best of all, financial aid applies, so stu-dents can take courses for the same low fee AND study abroad! CSU Stanislaus was recently selected as one of eight national institutions for the Global Learning for All Program, which means that international/global education is integrated into coursework as an active component.

    Faculty facts

CSU Stanislaus employs more than 450 full-time and part-time instructors who have a passion for helping students. The University boasts a low 19 to 1 student-to-teacher ratio. More than 80 percent of faculty hold doctorates, or an equivalent degree in their fields.

    Financial Aid

We dont let money stand in the way of a college education. Recently named one of Americas Best Value Colleges, CSU Stanislaus offers a top-quality education at an affordable price. Our students graduate with a debt load sub-stantially below the national average, thanks, in part, to more than $35 million in financial aid awarded to students annually, with nearly $1 million of that from scholarships.

    Internships

Experience gained from internships and fellowships offered at CSU Stanislaus often gives students the advantage in landing that crucial first job on their way to a lifelong career. Leading local, regional, and national companies, busi-nesses, school districts, hospitals, social and government agencies proudly employ CSU Stanislaus graduates. And many of them began their careers as interns.

    Presidents Message

Welcome to California State University, Stanislaus and Warrior Athletics. I am so proud of all of our sports teams and student-athletes.

Their success on the field and in the classroom has contributed to the Universitys reputation for excellence and its Princeton Review ranking as one of the Best 371 Colleges in the United States. CSU Stanislaus is ranked fourth in the CCAA for the number of student-athletes with a 3.0 GPA or higher. Additionally, our athletes enjoy a graduation rate that is significantly higher than other NCAA Division II schools; 66.7 percent of CSU Stanislaus athletes graduate in six years compared to 55 percent of student-athletes at the NCAA Division II level nationwide. Our outstanding student-athletes and coaches con-tinue to receive recognition for their many achievements. Pole vaulter Kasey Burlingham was the National Cham-pion in Mens Track and Field, Mens Golf Coach John Cook was named West Region Coach of the Year, and over 40 of our athletes earned Academic All-Conference honors last year. Several Warrior graduates have gone on to suc-ceed in athletics beyond their stellar performances here at CSU Stanislaus. Three of our baseball teams play-ers were drafted by Major League Baseball last spring, including Dakota Watts (16th Round, Minnesota Twins), Kyle Loretelli (38th Round, San Diego Padres), and Eric Federico (39th Round, Colorado Rockies). Joining our coaching staff this year are two Division I coaches with impressive records and the experience to take our mens soccer and basketball teams to new

heights. Head Mens Soccer Coach Dana Taylor comes from Oregon State University, where he led his team to post-season appearances in the highly competitive Pac-10 Conference. Larry Reynolds, Head Coach for Mens Basketball, also has extensive Division I and II experi-ence and has won several conference championships. The Student Recreation Complex is another en-hancement and resource for students this year. The University is quite proud of this new 24-acre complex which features an all- weather track and soccer stadium with 2,100 seats, 18,500 square foot fitness center, and intramural sports fields. California State University, Stanislaus reputation for excellence in both academics and athletics continues to grow. I encourage you to build on the strength and mo-mentum of the CSU Stanislaus Warriors by becoming an enthusiastic fan and supporter of our outstanding sports teams.

The 2009 Cal State Stanislaus wom-ens soccer team will have plenty to live up to during the season, but all signs point to success for this years squad. The Cal State Stanislaus womens soccer team is coming off a record break-ing year offensively. The Warriors set new single-season marks in goals (44), assists (42), and points (130). In addition they were ranked as high as No. 23 in the nation and No. 3 in the West Region. The 2008 season was good in many ways, said Cal State Stanislaus womens soccer head coach Gabriel Bolton. We continue to take steps towards playing an attractive attacking style of soccer. I also love how we competed with every team in the CCAA. With a winning record in 2008, the Warriors womens soccer team has now recorded winning seasons in seven of the last eight years. In 2009 expect to see more progress but some very different faces. Thats be-cause the Warriors graduated seven se-niors. Among the key losses are all-region first team defender Melissa Phillips and offensive points co-leader Adrienne So-renson (now an assistant coach). Phillips was the anchor of an aggressive Warriors defensive line in 08, while Sorenson was one of the Warriors many flashy forwards with speed and skill. Sorenson co-led the team in points with six goals and six assists. Phillips scored four goals and notched an assist last season for nine points as a defender. The new-look Warriors will be a very young squad with only 3 seniors. We are young but our team contin-ues to get faster and more athletic, Bol-ton said. This is going to be an exciting team to watch for years to come. Making things even more exciting is the opening of the new Warrior Stadium. Set to open Aug. 23, with the brand new scoreboard to be installed Sept. 6, the 2,100-seat state-of-the-art facility promis-es to be one of the best in college soccer. The team is very excited to play in our great new stadium, said Bolton. We are very fortunate to have this opportunity and plan on making the most of it.

    The following is a position-by position pre-view:

Goalkeeper The Warriors return two goalkeep-ers from last season. Senior Jessica Si-tarz started all 19 games last season and posted a 1.09 Goals Against Average in more than 1,700 minutes between the posts. She is being challenged by redshirt freshman Millie Brown.

Defense Phillips will be missed on the backline for the first time in four years. However, the Warriors are returning three starters from last years defense in right back Allison Freels, center back Vanessa Cervantes, and left back Jade Adamson. Cervantes is the lone returning Warrior besides goal-keeper Sitarz that started all 19 matches for the Warriors in 2008. Look for junior Heather Overholt to be a significant contributor in the defense in 2009. Others battling for starting position in the center of the defense will be sopho-more Kayln Pottorff and two freshmen Holly Johnson and Apryl Whitney. Pot-torff appeared in 15 games for the War-riors last season. At the outside defender spot, new-comers Hilary Callahan, Sierra Casas, Shelby Cargile and redshirt freshmen Emily Celey-Butlin will all compete for playing time.

Midfield All-CCAA player Kim DiNardo returns

for her junior year as the teams defensive midfielder. After starting 17 matches for the Warriors last season, she will have to hold off challenges from Alisa Barlow and Jessica Cordova, as all three look to contribute at that position. The attacking midfield positions will certainly have a new look as three-year starter Jenna Kasch graduated last year. The freshmen trio of Danielle Lovato, Bernadette Bettencourt, Alexia Poon should all see major playing time in the midfield. Sophomore Nichole Meyer and freshman Jen Thornton will also compete for playing time.

Forward The Warriors are once again deep at forward despite the loss of key players at that position due to graduation. Sophomore speed burner Marissa Dunaway returns after leading the team and tying a freshman goals record with seven in the 2008 campaign. She also tied for the lead in points with Sorenson at 18. She is joined by junior standout Lisa Garcia, who spent most of her time in the midfield last year. Garcia scored a goal and had three assists last season for five points. Redshirt sophomore Maryanne Sayles returns after a four-goal perfor-mance last season. Also battling for playing time will be senior Alena Smajlagic, redshirt fresh-man Ashley McGuiness, and a group of true freshmen Taylor Waldon, Rachel Naranjo, Elle Porter and Angela Bell.

Coming off a record breaking year, Warriors are back for more success

    GAbrIel bolTonHead Coach

Gabriel Bolton returned to Cal State Stanislaus as the womens soccer head coach in 2006 after first serving as the head coach in 2001. He is now in his fifth season over-all with the program and in 2008 became CSUSs win-ningest coach with his 36th win.

Bolton helped direct the Warriors to an 11-8-1 overall

finish in 2001. In the three years before his arrival, the pro-gram tallied just a 7-48-1 record. The Warriors were ranked the fourth-most improved womens soccer program in the nation by the NCAA at the conclusion of the year. In 2007, the Warriors finished second in the CCAA North after posting a 10-8-2 over-all and 7-5-2 conference records. In 2008, CSUS went 8-7-4 overall, giving the program seven winning seasons in the last eight years.

After the 2001 season, Bolton left to become the top as-sistant and recruiting coordinator at the University of Utah in Salt Lake City. During his three seasons at Utah, the Utes made three NCAA Division I tournament appearances, won the Mountain West Conference Championship tournament in 2003 and 2004 and posted an overall record of 42-12-8. The program was also ranked in the top 25 nationally all three sea-sons and in both 2003 and 2004, cracked the nations top 15 rankings.

As recruiting coordinator with the Utes, Bolton recruited three nationally-ranked recruiting classes. In 2002 and 2004, his classes were ranked No. 37 in the country and in 2003 his class was ranked No. 17the highest-ranked recruiting class in Utah and MWC history. During his three years at Utah, Bol-ton coached 14 all-conference players, 38 academic all-confer-ence players, six NSCAA All-West Region players, five fresh-men All-Americans, and two Verizon Academic All-Americans. Utah also received the National Soccer Coaches Association of America Team Academic Award all three years.

From 2005 to 2006, Bolton took over as the Girls Director of Coaching for the River City United soccer club in Sacramen-to. He was also the head coach for the RCU Boca Jrs. 91 (U14 girls) and RCU Boca Jrs. 90 (U15 girls). In 2006, Bolton led the Boca Jrs. 91 team to the Cal North State Cup Championshipthe first State Cup Championship by an RCU girls team in the 38-year history of RCU. He also led the team to a Super Y League Pacific Division Championship and the Super Y League North American Finals, where the team finished second. His Boca Jrs. 90 team was two-time United States Club Region G Champions, advanced to U.S. Club Nationals in 2005, and won the 2006 U.S. Club National Championship in Boltons last

game as coach of the team.In addition to coaching at the collegiate and club levels,

Bolton has been heavily involved in soccer with the Olympic Development Program (ODP). He has served as assistant coach and head coach for the Cal North State Team. Bolton also spent two years as a head coach in Utah with the ODP. Bolton has coached numerous players that have gone on to play at the U.S. Youth National Team levels. He is also on the national staff for Super Y League ODP.

Bolton has also coached at the Community College and High School levels. In 1998, he started the womens soccer program at Sierra College and made it an instant success. His overall three-year record was 41-16-11 and he led the team to the California Community College playoffs in two of the three seasons, including the NorCal Regional Final Four in the sec-ond year of the program. In 1996, he turned around Bella Vista High School in Fair Oaks, leading them to the Capital Athletic League Championship his first season and the Division I Sec-tion Semi-Finals in 1998.

While Bolton mostly coaches players, he is also extremely involved in developing coaches. In 2005, he became a certified trainer for the Positive Coaching Alliance. The PCA is a non-profit organization started in 1998 at Stanford University that trains coaches to coach using positive motivational techniques. As a trainer, Bolton puts on workshops throughout Northern California that gives youth coaches tools to positively motivate their players.

Bolton Graduated from UC Davis in 1994 with his degree in political science and sociology. He earned his law degree in 1997 from the University of the Pacific, McGeorge School of Law.
