Iron Cross of Germany for her service. Barton also chartered six other American branches of the Red Cross in various countries including
Turkey. Barton was an avid supporter of the Women’s Suffrage Movement and became acquaintances with Frederick Douglass and
later became an activist for black civil rights. Some of her other work was founding the National First Aid Society. Her home was turned into
a national historic site museum in 1975 signifying one of the first major works of a woman.

If you said Marie Curie was known as the “Mother of Modern Physics” you would be correct. In 1911 Curie won the Nobel prize for Chemistry and Physics, making her the first and only women to win two Nobel Prizes in multiple sciences. Curie and her husband
came up with the theory of radioactivity and discovered two elements, Polonium and Radium, which are still used in the
periodic table today. She also conducted studies on the treatment of neoplasm.

$100 Answer from LawWho is Constance Motley. She had a major impact on ending racial discrimination. It started with her mother being the founder of the New Haven chapter of the NAACP. Constance later stood as the NAACP’s Legal Defense Fund’s associate counsel while working with the future U.S. Supreme Court Associate Justice Thurgood Marshall.
Constance also helped write the original complaint for the Brown vs. Board of Education of Topeka Kansas and was the first African American women to argue a
case before the Supreme Court. Her other accomplishments and firsts’ were being the first African American women to be elected to the New York State Senate in 1964 and to the Manhattan borough presidency in 1965. In 1966, she became the first African American women on the federal bench and in 1982 became the first to
become a chief judge. She was also awarded the Presidential Citizen’s Medal by President Bill Clinton for her achievements to the Nation. (Wow, say that three times

Obama.

minorities not being able to practice law. Arabella also acted as the President of the Iowa’s Women’s Suffrage Convention
in 1870.

acquaintance Walker offered Joyner a position working for her. Eventually, Joyner oversaw at least 200 of Walker’s companies. She did
this for the remainder of Walkers’ life and long after her death.
