ADMINISTRATION

PresidentDr. James Edwards is the fourth president of Anderson

University. As President, he provides leadership to the university’s faculty and staff members, who serve more than

2,900 students.Edwards earned his Bachelor of

Arts degree in 1965 and his Master of Divinity degree in 1970, both from Anderson University. He completed his Doctor of Philosophy degree from Ohio State University in 1987.

Edwards previously served as director of student recruitment and director of church and alumni relations at Anderson University. He was senior pastor at Meadow Park

Church of God in Columbus, Ohio, for 14 years. Prior to his presidency at AU, Edwards served one year as CEO of Warner Press.

Athletic DirectorMarcie Taylor is in her seventh year as the athletic director at

Anderson University.Taylor is in her 25th year overall at Anderson and is currently

the head women’s basketball coach. Before taking over the AD position, Taylor was the associate athletic director.

Taylor was a guard for the Lady Ravens from 1980-84 and graduated in 1984 with a bachelor’s degree in secondary education/physical education and a minor in biology. She earned a master’s degree in exercise physiology from Ball State in 1988.

Taylor spent one year as an assistant coach at AU before taking over the program in 1991.

Chad Wetz enters his first season as assistant women’s basketball coach at Anderson University. Wetz comes to AU with over 20 years of coaching experience from high schools all across the state of Indiana. He has led varsity programs in boys’ and girls’ basketball, baseball, soccer, and golf. Most notably his Anderson High School “Lady Tribe” teams won three straight 4A sectionals

from 2005-2007 and went on to the 2007 IHSAA Final Four, finishing with a school record 24 wins and only three losses.

Wetz has been named a conference or media “Coach of the Year” four times and has collected one regional, three sectional, two county, and two conference championships.

Wetz and his wife, Audrey, attend East Side Church of God with their three children, Mason, Dylan, and Rylea.

“Having the opportunity to become a member of Coach Taylor’s staff is like getting a chance to come home to coach,” said Wetz. “Even though I am not an AU alumnus, my family and I have been associated with the ministries, outreach, and communities of this great college our entire lives.”

Tim Hird begins his second stint as assistant coach for the Anderson University women’s basketball team under Head Coach Marcie Taylor.

Coach Hird, an AU alum and former athlete, last coached at AU in the 2004-05 season. Since then, he has been the varsity girl’s coach at Tipton High School (2005-2007), boy’s assistant at Daleville High School (2007-2012),

boy’s assistant at the Anderson Preparatory Academy (2013-14), and for many years before was an assistant to Coach Alan Darner at Highland High School here in Anderson. Coach Hird’s coaching career spans four decades and has positively touched the lives of student athletes in Madison County.

Coach Hird teaches sixth grade at Highland Middle School and attends East Side Church of God with his wife, Sandy. Mrs. Hird is a third grade teacher at Daleville Elementary.

The 2014-2015 season marks the 24th season for Marcie Taylor as the head women’s basketball coach at Anderson University.

The Ravens have posted a winning record in five of the last 12 years, including a 21-7 record in 2002, which they won the HCAC title and advanced to the NCAA Division III national tournament.

Taylor has twice been named Heartland Collegiate

Athletic Conference (HCAC) Coach of the Year — in 2002 and in 2008. In each of those seasons, the Ravens won the

regular season HCAC title. The 2001-02 squad also won the HCAC Tournament Championship. Taylor has coached three HCAC Players of the Year: Angel Hall in 2001-02, and 2003-04 seasons and Kayla Martin in 2007-08. She has also coached three HCAC Freshmen of the Year.

Taylor was a guard on the Lady Ravens from 1980-84 and graduated in 1984 with a bachelor’s degree in secondary education/physical education and a minor in biology. She earned a master’s degree in exercise physiology from Ball State in 1988.

Before coming to Anderson, Taylor was the head basketball coach at Bismark Junior High School for two years. She also spent one year as an assistant coach at AU before taking over the program in 1991.

2012-2013: During her sophomore season, Conner played 24 games averaging, 16.3 minutes and 5.3 points per game. She was fifth on the team in field goals made with 53, fourth in offensive rebounds with 27, and fourth in blocks with eight. She finished the season with a total of 126 points.

The 2007-08 Anderson University women’s basketball team became the second in school history to win the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Championship.

The Ravens finished the season with an 18-8 overall record and a 12-4 mark in the HCAC. AU finished 12-2 at O.C. Lewis Gymnasium during the season, including 8-0 in the HCAC.

AU opened the season with a 69-44 victory over Marian behind junior Kayla Martin’s 16 points. They also started the HCAC season with a 85-66 win over Defiance with Martin scoring a team-high 15 points and sophomore Tiffany Bowsher pulling down 11 rebounds.

After starting the season 6-6, the Ravens finished strong with a 12-2 record down the stretch, including winning their final three HCAC regular season games.

As the top seed and host of the post-season tournament, AU defeat-ed Hanover 72-39 in the semifinals behind Bowsher’s 17 points. The

Ravens fell to Manchester 52-50 in the championship on a last-sec-ond shot. Junior Mel Hawthorne led the Ravens in the title game with

23 points and seven rebounds.

For the season, Martin led the Ravens in scoring at 13.5 points per game and was second in rebounding (7.8 rpg). She also had a team-high 41 blocks, 40 assists, and 26 steals.

Martin was first-team All-HCAC as well as the conference Most Valuable Player for the 2007-08 season.

Bowsher was sec-ond in scoring (9.3 ppg) and first in rebounding (8.1 rpg). She also had 30 assists and 20 steals. Bowsher was also named to the All-HCAC 1st Team.

Mandy Seward gave the Ravens three players on the All-HCAC 1st Team. The junior averaged 8.1 points, 3.2 rebounds, 4.7 assists, and 2.3 steals per game for the season.

Hawthorne was named All-HCAC Honorable Mention. The junior averaged 8.8 points, 5.9 rebounds, 2.5 assists, and 1.5 steals per game.

Senior Lauren Vail was the other starter for the Ravens, averaging 6.2 points and 3.5 rebounds per game. Freshman Ellen Thompson played in all 26 games off the bench, averag-ing 7.9 points and 3.7 rebounds per game.

Other contributers were Lauren Leisure (4.4 ppg), Julie Bynum (3.7 ppg), Cassey Bowman (2.2 ppg), Shawna Wuethrich (1.1 ppg), and Sara Kuhns (0.6 ppg).

Head Coach Marcie Taylor collected her second Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Coach of the Year Award in 2007-08. Taylor also won the award in the 2001-02 season.
