Jennifer Potter is in her second year as Ithaca’shead coach. Potter, an all-American sprinterat Ithaca, led the Bombers to Empire 8 and

state titles at the indoor and outdoor champi-onships and a 15th-place finish at the NCAAIndoor Championships. She was named NYSCTCand Empire 8 indoor and outdoor coach of the yearand Atlantic Region indoor coach of the year asIthaca broke five school records.

Potter spent four years at Cortland as thehead women’s track and field coach, as well ascoaching sprinters and hurdlers as an assistant

coach with the men’s program. She led the Red Dragons to three indoor andthree outdoor conference championships. Potter was named United StatesTrack Coaches Association Atlantic Region Coach of the Year three timesin indoor track and field and twice in outdoor track and field. She was theState University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Coach of theof the Year three times.

Her coaching background also includes a year as an assistant coach withthe women’s cross country and track and field teams at Division I CentralMichigan, four years as head cross country and track and field coach atHartwick and two years as a graduate assistant coach with the cross coun-try and track and field programs at Division I Marshall In her career, Potterhas coached 66 national qualifiers and 44 all-Americans (including a nationalchampion high jumper) as well as 13 academic all-Americans.

She is a Level I USATF instructor and holds USATF Level II certifica-tion as a sprints, hurdles, relays and jumps coach. Potter served on the2004 Olympic trials field staff.

Potter graduated from Ithaca in 1992 with a degree in physical educa-tion. She was a four-year letter winner with the Bomber track and field team,earning all-America honors in the 1,600-meter relay at the 1991 NCAA out-door championships. A two-time national qualifier in the 400-meter hurdles,she still holds school records (800 and 1,600-meter relay). She earned her master’s degree from Marshall in 1994. She is also an assistant coach withthe Bomber men’s track and field and women’s cross country teams.

JACKIE BAUTERSBauters joins the Bomber staff as a graduate assistantcoach. A recent graduate of St. Mary’s (Ind.), she wasa three-year letter winner for the Belles cross countryteam. She graduated from St. Mary’s with a bachelor’sdegree in psychology. Bauters, who was an assistantcoach with the women’s cross country team that qual-ified for nationals in the fall, is pursuing a master’s degreein sport psychology.

JAMES DONEGANDonegan enters his first season with the track and fieldprogram and works primarily with the sprinters and hurdlers. He is a graduate of Ithaca College and was amember of the men’s track and field and cross countryprograms. A captain his senior year in track and field,Donegan was a state qualifier his junior and senior seasons. Donegan served as a two-time captain in crosscountry, with the team qualifying for nationals both seasons.

ADAM MILLSPAUGHMillspaugh is in his first season with the track and fieldprogram and works primarily with athletes in the multievents and the throwers. He has previously served as avolunteer assistant coach at Trumansburg High School.Millspaugh participated in the multi events and as asprinter and a thrower at Delhi. He qualified for theNJCAA national championships and was a member ofthe 2001 Delhi team that won the NJCAA national title.

CAROL MULLINSMullins enters her third year with the staff and worksprimarily with the throwers. A 1991 graduate of NewHampshire, she spent a year as the assistant track andfield coach at Plattsburgh in charge of the throwers. Asan athlete she was a three-time New England Collegiatediscus champion and two-time javelin champion and the open division javelin champion at the 1989 PennRelays. She was a member of the 1990 and 1991 ECAC-champion ice hockey team at New Hampshire.

JIM NICHOLSNichols, in his 20th year at Ithaca, has coached themen’s cross country and indoor and outdoor track andfield teams since 1986 and spent nine seasons coachingthe women’s track and field teams. Nichols has won 11state titles (two in cross country, four in indoor track andfield, five in outdoor track and field) and coached 29 trackand field all-Americans at Ithaca, including the 1992national champion in the women’s outdoor 5,000-meterrun. Before coming to Ithaca he spent two years as head cross country andtrack and field coach at Plattsburgh, coaching the 1986 indoor 800-meter runnational champion. Nichols, who served on the staff for the 2002 World CrossCountry Championship, was an all-American cross country runner at NorthCentral and a member of two national champion teams for the Cardinals.

ITHACA COLLEGEMIKE STYCZYNSKIStyczynski, a 2003 cross country all-American, is in hisfirst season as an assistant coach and will work primarilywith the middle distance and distance runners. Styczynskiholds school records in the indoor 5,000-meter run and the outdoor 5,000- and 10,000-meter runs. He wasnamed outstanding runner at the 2000 NYSCTC meet,winning two state outdoor titles. He was also a four-yearparticipant at the NCAA championships in cross coun-

try and was a four-time first team all-Atlantic Region and all-NYSCTC selec-tion. He also serves as an assistant coach with the men’s cross country team.

MARY WALLENBECKWallenbeck is in her fourth season with the track andfield program. She works primarily with the long jumpersand triple jumpers. She graduated from Ithaca, whereshe was a member of the track and field and volleyballteams. She spent eight seasons as a varsity track and fieldcoach at Spencer Van Etten High School. Wallenbeckis also an assistant coach for the volleyball team. Herfather is Ithaca College Hall of Famer and current

women’s cross country and assistant track and field coach William Ware.

WILLIAM WAREWare works primarily with the distance runners. A mem-ber of the Ithaca College Athletic Hall of Fame, he hascoached the women’s cross country team for 17 seasons,leading the Bombers to the NCAA championships on12 occasions, including the 2004 season. Ware’s otherresponsibilities at Ithaca have included coaching themen’s cross country, men’s lacrosse, men’s swimmingand diving and women’s swimming and diving teams.

The Bombers look to continue their success at the New York StateCollegiate Track Conference (NYSCTC) championships—Ithaca haswon six of the past seven indoor titles and seven straight outdoor

crowns—with a veteran roster that features 29 returning letter winners anda pair of all-Americans.

RECAP: The 2004 winter season was highlighted by a 15th-place fin-ish at the indoor national championships (Ithaca’s third straight top-15 show-ing). Ithaca reclaimed the state title and placed sixth at the Eastern CollegeAthletic Conference (ECAC) Championships—matching the program’s bestfinish in 14 years. At the NCAA meet, Emily Maston and MeganMorningstar earned all-America honors by recording third-place finishesin the 800-meter run and high jump, respectively. Ithaca broke three schoolrecords during the winter and set two more in the outdoor season, which alsofeatured a seventh straight state title and a 14th-place finish at the ECAC meet.

KEY LOSSES: Six-time all-American Amanda Laytham, New YorkState’s winner of the NCAA Woman of the Year award, set nine school recordsin her career. Kristen Cravotta was a two-time all-American in the distancemedley relay and a five-time state-champion middle distance runner. NicholeClark earned all-state honors nine times. Throwers Genevieve Billia andCory Lipp were both two-time state runners-up. Hurdler/sprinter AnastasiaHagan and long and triple jumper Alyson Holbrook combined to recordseven all-state performances.

SPRINTS: Senior Kim Henn earned all-state honors five times last yearand classmate Carrie Williams was an all-state performer three times,including a second-place finish with the indoor 800-meter relay team.Seniors Sarah Boucher and Martine Loewensteiner (who spent the springsemester studying at Washington University) and junior Camille Guyot-Bender are all returning all-state competitors. Freshmen Stephanie Donahueand Leigh Klumpp will also contribute.

MIDDLE DISTANCE: Maston, a three-time all-American, earnedthree state titles last year. She is a two-time state-champion in the 500-meterrun and holds the school record in that event. Two other seniors, Kara Krebsand Alyssa Tingle, along with junior Irena McQuarrie, were all-staterunners last year. Freshmen Brittany DeMarse and Audrey Harkness areamong Ithaca’s top newcomers.

DISTANCE: The Bombers will again reap the benefits of their strongcross country program (Ithaca is coming off a fifth straight trip to nation-als in November). Senior Lindsay Dalpiaz is a former all-state competi-tor, provisional national qualifier and school-record holder in the steeplechase.Senior Bridgette Pilling was a national qualifier (indoor and outdoor) andstate champion (outdoor) in the 5,000-meter run. Junior AnastasiaKasianchuk and sophomore Susan Meyer were all-state runners last year.Seniors Lisa Hardy, Megan Sturges and Payson Warlick and sopho-more Rachel Blasiak were NYSCTC championship qualifiers.

HURDLES: Elena DeQuesada, a four-year letter winner with Ithaca’sgymnastics team, will spend her first season with the indoor team. She’s athree-time all-state performer in the 100-meter hurdles. Williams, who hasalso earned all-NYSCTC accolades three times in the hurdles, is a formerschool-record-holder in the 60-meter event. Junior Kelly Sisti, the school-record-holder in the 60-meter hurdles, was the state runner-up in the out-door 100-meter hurdles, and senior Theresa Merrion was a state qualifierin the outdoor 100 and 400-meter hurdles.

JUMPS: Morningstar is a three-time all-American high jumper who’stwice finished third at the NCAA indoor championships. She has won two

state titles and an ECAC championship as well. Sisti, an all-state highjumper, and senior Wendy Scutt, who has competed in the long and triplejumps during her career, also return.

DeQuesada has recorded five all-state performances in the long jump andtriple jump at the NYSCTC outdoor championships. Sisti is a three-time all-state competitor in those events, and freshman Alison Spivak.

Junior Joanna Polakow set the school record in the outdoor pole vaultlast season and Spivak broke the program’s indoor record in her first com-petition. Senior Katie Schkolenko was a state qualifier a year ago.

THROWS: Schkolenko has won the past three NYSCTC javelin titlesand was a provisional qualifier for nationals in 2003 and 2004. She is alsoa state qualifier in the indoor and outdoor shot put. Sophomore ChristyGibney earned all-state honors in the javelin throw. Melissa Blitzsteinshould be one of the team’s top freshmen.

PENTATHLON/HEPTATHLON: Sisti earned all-state honors in thepentathlon and heptathlon each of the past two years. DeQuesada is an all-state heptathlete; Williams is a state qualifier.

2005 SCHEDULE: Following an indoor season that includes meets atArmy, Boston University, Cornell, Penn State, St. Lawrence and Tufts, theBombers will participate in the NYSCTC championships at RIT (the pen-tathlon competition will be held at Cornell) and the ECAC meet at St.Lawrence. Illinois Wesleyan will host the NCAA championships.

The outdoor season begins in late March. The Bombers will host the IthacaInvitational and will compete at Bucknell, Cornell, Lafayette and Princeton.Ithaca will host the heptathlon portion of this year’s state meet, whileRochester will host the NYSCTC Championships. The ECAC champi-onship meet is at Springfield and the NCAA outdoor championships willbe held at Wartburg.

KIM HENNSprints, Sr.; Basking Ridge, N.J.2003-04: Henn was a five-time all-state performer, placing fourth in the200-meter dash and sixth in the 55-meter dash at the NYSCTC indoorchampionships (she was the Empire 8champion in the latter event), fourth inthe outdoor 100-meter dash, seventh

with the indoor 800-meter relay team and sixth with the out-door 400-meter relay team. She also qualified for the statemeet in the outdoor 200-meter dash. 2002-03: Henn earnedall-state honors in four events. She ran on Ithaca’s fifth-place 800-meter relayteam during the winter. In the spring she took seventh in the 200-meter dashand eighth in the 100-meter dash and was also a member of the 400-meterrelay team that placed fourth. 2001-02: Henn ran on the 400-meter relay teamthat placed third at the state outdoor meet (50.32). She helped the 800-meterrelay team to seventh at the NYSCTC indoor meet (1:51.02) and was a statequalifier in the outdoor 100- and 200-meter dashes. High School: At RidgeHigh School, Henn was coached by Tim Mooney. Personal: An art major,she is the daughter of Francis and Jean Henn. Her brother, Mike, a 2000 Ithacagraduate, was a state-champion sprinter with the men’s track and field team.

EMILY MASTONMiddle Distance, Sr.; Massena2003-04: Maston earned all-Americahonors in the indoor 800-meter run(third at nationals). She also qualified fornationals with the DMR team, helpingthe Bombers place 10th. Maston was thestate champion and ECAC runner-up inthat event. She won an indoor state title

with the DMR and placed second in the 500-meter run atthe NYSCTC indoor meet (school-record tying 78.30). Inthe spring Maston helped the 3,200-meter relay team to astate title and second in the 1,500-meter run and third in the 800-meter run.She was part of seven Empire 8 championships and earned both Empire 8Presidents’ List recognition and UST&FC all-academic honors. 2002-03:Maston earned all-America honors with the DMR team, helping the Bombersto fifth at nationals. She won state titles and set school records in the 500-meter run (1:18.30) and with the DMR team (11:51.09). In the spring, shehelped the 3,200-meter relay and sprint medley relay teams to school-recordtimes of 9:04.66 and 4:06.55, respectively at the Drake Relays. Maston earnedall-state honors with the 1,600-meter relay team, placing fifth. 2001-02:Maston earned all-America honors with the DMR relay team’s sixth-placefinish at nationals. She ran on the 3,200-meter relay and DMR teams that both set school records during the winter. She won a state title in the indoor500-meter run (a facility-record 1:19.68) and earned all-NYSCTC honors withthe 800-meter, 1,600-meter and DMR teams. In the spring Maston was a member of Ithaca’s NYSCTC-champion 3,200-meter relay team (school-record9:20.33) and earned all-state accolades in the 800-meter run (fourth), 1,500-meter run (fifth) and 1,600-meter relay (third). High School:At Massena HighSchool Maston was coached by Roy Bixby. Personal: A clinical science/physical therapy major, she is the daughter of Gerald and Sue Maston.

Throws, Sr.; Newton, N.J.2003-04: Schkolenko won her third straight state title in thejavelin and was a provisional qualifier for the NCAA cham-pionships. Her career-best effort of 131-4 at the ColumbiaInvitational was just 14 inches short of Ithaca’s 14-year-oldschool record. She was also a state qualifier in the outdoorpole vault and indoor and outdoor shot put. Schkolenko wasnamed to the Empire 8 Presidents’List after the fall semesterand received all-academic honors from the USTFCA following the outdoor season. 2002-03: Schkolenko was aprovisional NCAA qualifier in the javelin throw, posting a

career-best mark of 128-21/2. At the NYSCTC outdoor meet she successfullydefended her state title and two weeks later took third at the ECAC cham-pionships. 2001-02: Schkolenko won the NYSCTC championship in thejavelin (121-4). She posted a top effort of 125-3. She was a state qualifierin the indoor shot put, placing 11th (31-8). Schkolenko spent the fall withthe Bomber women’s soccer team. High School: At Newton High School,Schkolenko was coached by Jake Mull. Personal: The daughter of Stevenand Agnes Schkolenko, she is an organizational communication, learningand design major.

CARRIE WILLIAMSHurdles/Multi-events,

Sr.; Ithaca2003-04: Williams earned all-statehonors in three events. She took sev-enth in the outdoor 100-meter hurdles,was part of the indoor 800-meter relayteam that finished as NYSCTC runner-up and helped the outdoor 400-meterrelay team to a sixth-place finish. Williams was also a statequalifier in the indoor 55-meter hurdles. 2002-03: Williamsproduced two school-record performances in the 60-meter

hurdles during the indoor season, lowering the mark to 9.5. She earned all-state honors in the 55-meter hurdles, placing fifth at the indoor meet, and helpedthe 400-meter relay team to an all-state showing (fourth) at the NYSCTCoutdoor championships. 2001-02: Williams set a school record in her firstcollegiate meet, posting a time of 9.82 in the 60-meter hurdles. She placedfifth in the 55-meter hurdles at the NYSCTC indoor meet (9.04) and alsoqualified in the pentathlon during the indoor season. High School: At IthacaHigh School, Williams was coached by Richard Bernstein. Personal: Atelevision-radio major, she is the daughter of Wenmouth and Nancy Williams.Her father is a professor in Ithaca’s department of television and radio andIthaca’s Faculty Athletics Representative to the NCAA.

RACHEL BLASIAKDistance, So.; Chapel Hill, N.C.Blasiak earned all-conference, all-stateand all-region honors for Ithaca’s crosscountry team, helping the Bombers toa berth at nationals. 2003-04: Blasiakwas a state qualifier in the outdoor1,500 and 5,000-meter runs, placing15th (5:14.57) and 10th (19:23.77),

respectively. She was the top freshman on Ithaca’s crosscountry team, earning all-conference and all-state honors.She was chosen Empire 8 Rookie of the Year and wasnamed to the Empire 8 Presidents’List twice. High School: At Chapel HillHigh School Blasiak was coached by Ron Olsen. Personal: A biologymajor, she is the daughter of Richard Blasiak and Elaine Cameron.

and 14th in the 10,000-meter run (42:28.98). She was a first-team all-conference selection in cross country. 2002-03:Dalpiaz was a state qualifier during the indoor and outdoorseasons. She placed 13th in the indoor 5,000-meter run and 12th in the3,000-meter steeplechase at the outdoor meet. 2001-02: Dalpiaz set a schoolrecord in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (11:55.76) at the state meet, earningall-state honors and provisionally qualifying for nationals. 2003-04: DeQuesada sat out the out-door season with a gymnastics injury.In the winter, DeQuesada earned all-ECAC honors in the vault and helpedIthaca’s gymnastics team to a runner-up finish at the national meet. 2002-03:DeQuesada recorded three all-state performances, placingsixth in the 100-meter hurdles, seventh in the long jump andeighth in the triple jump and earned all-ECAC honors in the

100-meter hurdles (seventh) and long jump (eighth). 2001-02: DeQuesadaearned all-state honors in three events, placing fourth in the heptathlon(3,515 points) and fifth in both the long jump (16-5) and 100-meter hurdles(15.97). She also qualified for the state meet in the triple jump and javelinthrow. 2000-01: DeQuesada earned all-state honors in the 100-meter hur-dles (fourth), long jump (sixth) and triple jump (seventh) and ran on Ithaca’s400-meter relay team at the Penn Relays. In the winter she was a memberof Ithaca’s ECAC-champion gymnastics team. High School: At RosevilleArea High School, DeQuesada’s track and field coach was Mark Sotebeer.Personal: The daughter of Sandra DeQuesada, she received her bachelor’sdegree in exercise science, with minors in coaching, mathematics andphysics, in May. She was an individual qualifier in the outdoor 100-meter dash, finishing 12th. 2001-02:

Loewensteiner ran on the 400-meter relay team that took third at the stateoutdoor meet (50.32) and the 800-meter relay team that was seventh at theNYSCTC indoor meet (1:51.02). She was an individual state qualifier in theoutdoor 100- and 200-meter dashes. High School: Loewensteiner wascoached by Paul Bucchino at Morristown High School. ITHACA COLLEGEMEGHAN MORNINGSTARJumps, Jr.; Towanda, Pa.2003-04: Morningstar earned all-America honors for the third time,placing third in the high jump at theNCAA indoor championships. Sheis the first Bomber to earn all-Americahonors three times in a field event.Morningstar, whose top mark was

5-7 (1.70 meters), was a national qualifier during the out-door season and placed 17th at the NCAA championships.She won the state title in that event at both the indoor andoutdoor NYSCTC meets and was the ECAC runner-up during the indoorseason. 2002-03: Morningstar earned all-America honors in both the indoorand outdoor high jump, finishing third at the indoor national championshipsand seventh at the outdoor NCAA meet. Her third-place showing at the indoorevent was the program’s highest finish ever in a field event. Morningstar won the ECAC title in the spring and recorded third-place finishes at the ECACindoor championships and the indoor state meet. Her top marks were 1.61 meters (indoors) and 1.65 meters (outdoors). High School:At TowandaArea High School, Morningstar was coached by Mark Vail. Personal: Thedaughter of John and Valerie Morningstar, she is a student in the exploratoryprogram. Her sister Mandi is a sophomore at Ithaca.

BRIDGETTE PILLINGMid-Distance, Sr.; Dalton, Mass. Pilling was the Empire 8 championand earned all-conference, all-stateand all-region honors in cross coun-try. She was named Empire 8 Runnerof the Year and was Ithaca’s top fin-isher at nationals (53rd). 2003-04:Pilling was a national qualifier in the

indoor and outdoor 5,000-meter runs. She won the outdoorNYSCTC title in that race, and also earned all-state honors in the indoor 3,000-meter (second), outdoor 10,000-meter (second) and indoor 5,000-meter (third) runs. Pilling earned all-ECAC honors with a fifth-place showing in the 5,000-meter run at theindoor championships. She was named to the Empire 8 Presidents’ List following the fall semester and was named to the USTFCA all-academic teamafter the outdoor season. Her cross country season featured a fourth-placefinish at the state championship race. 2002-03: Pilling earned five all-statehonors, highlighted by her performance on the 3,200-meter relay team thatwon the NYSCTC outdoor title in a meet-record time of 9:13.63. She placedthird in the outdoor 5,000-meter run, sixth in the indoor 1,500-meter run andeighth in the outdoor 1,500-meter run. Pilling also ran on the third-place indoor3,200-meter relay team. 2001-02: Pilling earned all-state honors in the1,000-meter run, placing sixth at the NYSCTC indoor meet in 3:11.25. Inthe spring she was a state and ECAC qualifier in the 1,500-meter run andtook ninth at the state meet (4:51.74). High School: At Wahconah RegionalSchool, Pilling was coached by Nick Cavilari. PAYSON WARLICKDistance, Sr.; Randolph Center, Vt.Warlick earned all-conference, all-stateand all-region recognition in crosscountry. She competed at nationals andfinished fifth at the state meet (18:57.3).2003-04: Warlick was a state qualifierin the 10,000-meter run and placed
