Women have started entering the workforces like never beforefrom the sixties and seventies. There has been a paradigm shiftfrom earlier years when roles of men and women were clearlydefined: a man was supposed to be the bread earner while awoman was supposed to take care of the household. In the US, 46.8
% of the workforce is now comprised of women.

In India, the workforce gender diversity is quite interesting. In ruralIndia, agriculture and allied industrial sectors employ as much as89.5% of the total female labor. However, there are far fewerwomen in the paid workforce than there are men in urban India.Some industry sectors do employ a lot of women. As an example atsoftware industry 30% of the workforce is female.

House wives and working womenwho are
employed part time and who find lots of
leisure time look for work-at-home jobs to
earn some extra money to support their
families. Internet and advance technology have
made prospects of these jobs very bright.
Another advantage of these jobs is that they
are offered to complete them at flexible hours,
but within the deadline. Working at homeat
the convenience of ones leisure time best suithouse wives, students and retired employees
etc. and it is for these reasons that they are in
great demand in India. They are paid piece-
meal or hourly. Above all they do not require
any expertise mostly. All you need to have is a
computer and an internet connection. If youpossess software skills, it will be an added
advantage to do some types of software linked
assignments.

Overall too India ranks 113 of 135 countries on the index. Even so, there is no doubt
that there are more Indian women leaders in business than ever before, thanks to the
resilience and gung ho spirit that women display.
The Global Scenario
During the last century, arguments about gender equality in the workplace was
largely based on the concept of equality of opportunity. It was said to be theright thing to do.
Gradually, the gender gap elimination was done and there was a significant
improve in the financial scenarios of companies. It seemed not just the right,
but a bright thing to do.
A recent research has revealed that around 12% growth could be given to
companies if the gender gap was eliminated.
