The Rights of Children
> Article 12 of the United Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) guarantees to every child capable of forming his or her views the right to express those freely in all matters affecting him or her. It also recognises the right of the child to have those views given due weight in accordance with the child’s age and maturity
> Together these represent the right of the child to be heard and to participate in decisions made concerning him or her.

Children’s participation
> Children’s participation is more than just asking
them for their ideas and views. It’s about listening
to them, taking them seriously and turning their
ideas and suggestions into reality. It is also about
providing them with the ability to influence some of
the things that affect them and at the same time
helping adults understand children’s issues
through their lens.
> It is well evidenced in the literature that the
accounts and lived experiences of children and
young people regarding their world and how they
experience it can contribute significantly and
meaningfully to new knowledge and in doing so
can enhance services that are provided to children
