• Focused on Advocacy and Networking• 50% of the Executive and General Body of

NPdO are Women with Disabilities (mandatory)

• With over 50,000 persons with disabilities as associate members from 23 districts in Andhra Pradesh

• 98 members form the General Body

• The issues• Parents and siblings do not support or

encourage Women with disabilities to be a member of DPO or happy when they participate in advocacy programmes

• Parents and teachers are not serious when we discuss about rights of Children with disabilities

• Care givers of persons with children and persons with severe disabilities are poor and are struggling for their livelihood

Limited understanding of the role of DPOs

• The issues• In a village people and community understand

CBOs as Self Help Group that are formed for Savings and Credit and getting entitlements from Govt.

• As Charity has been one of the main ways of addressing the needs of persons with disabilities, Persons with Disabilities and their families expect that the DPO would assist them financially

Achievements in brief

• As persons with disabilities and their families are a large group – we have been able to influence the vote bank

• NPdO organises specific and a number of leadership training programme for women with disabilities

• Women with disabilities are part of all advocacy actions with the support of their families

Developed broad network from Gross rout CBOs to International DPOs.

Collaboration with Rights Based Organizations Like HRLN, MVF, AICB, Action Aid and Dalit, Sex workers, Tribal Networks etc.

Rehabilitation Services like NIMH, NGOs, Corporate sector & other Govt. Institutions

Strengths

• NPdO has constituted an Advisory Board with eminent people, Senior Activists from different fields

• All the Members of NPdO Executive Council and General Body are Persons With disAbilities across the state .

• 50% women with disability participation is mandatory in all committees

• 70000 Active PwDs have membership in NPdO

• Above1000 Trained Activists are working as Volunteers across the State for the Rights and Entitlements of the PwDs.

• NPdO wings: Women and Children with disability, Student, Youth & Sports, Cultural & Information, Employees, etc.

• Human Resource Policy, Finance Policy and HIV & AIDS Policies are in place

1 lakh Signature campaign performed to include the issues of the PWDs in the Election Manifesto in 2004.Human Chain Programme on Independence Day For the FREEDOM of PWD

NPdO activistsContested in General Assembly Elections in 2004 at Kuppam, Pulivendula aginst the Present and former Chief Minister Assembly segments at Penukonda.

1 lakh post card Campaign for Securing Reservation of 3 seats in the ensuing Legislation Council .

Key Achievements at the State level

Dwarfism accepted as disability by the Hon’ble High Court of A. P. it was Directed to the Govt. to issue a G.O.

50 days of additional work and 30% wage rate has been enhanced in NREGA in the State for PwDs

Leprosy cured persons have been receiving Rehabilitation services at their door steps, as NPdO, LC Federation and HRLN together filed a case in Hon’ble High Court.

By the initiation of NPdO 5 new G.Os have been emerged.> Increment of marriage incentive to Rs. 3000 to 10000> Scholarship amount is increased and made equilent to the SC, ST> Fees reimbursement to the PwDs for Professional courses> PwDs will be entitled to get more than one type of benefit> The married PwDs are eligible to get Housing scheme previously, but now all unmarried can avail the scheme.
