These pics are my first memories of

My son in law and I like to ride up to Marine City to go to lunch. It is also a nice way to spend a few hours riding. Looking forward

to the ride to hog fest in birch Run in August. That should be a great time. It will be are first time at the Rally. — Doug Smith

Awesome Rides

I want to take a minute to thank you all for your support for the Ride For Freedom, the V.A.

hospital ride, bringing the vets to the dealer and the current motorcycle raffle.

The “Ride For Freedom” is now the “Patrick Wisniewski Memorial Ride for Freedom” — same great ride, we just wanted to honor Patrick. This year’s ride is June 29, 2014 and we will be ending the ride back at the dealership this year. Registrations are available now and as usual the first 300 get the shirt, the patch new for this year, breakfast, and lunch. So

register early!! We are also raffling off a 2014 Road King CVO at the Ride for Freedom. Tickets are on sale now and are $20. We are only selling 5,000 tickets and the V.V.A Chapter 154 is paying the sales tax on the bike for the winner. Tickets are available at the dealer and at the Vet Center on 12 Mile.

The Ride to the V.A. Hospital this year will be July 26, 2014. We moved it a week so we can all participate in the Muskegon Bike week the week before.

On June 8, 2014 the Waterford H.O.G. Chapter is doing their Harleys

for Heroes and are asking for our participation. The folks from Water-ford have come out and supported a number of our events and it will be time for a little reciprocation to show our appreciation for their support.

We will be bringing the vets back out to the dealer sometime in October. We haven’t set a date yet but as soon as we do I will make sure the word gets out.

As I said in the beginning, I can’t begin to express my gratitude to all of you for supporting the veterans stuff we do. You folks are simply the best!!

Veteran’s Corner submitted by Pat Daniels, Sgt. At Arms

I know you all are as sick of this snow and cold as I am and can’t wait to get out and ride. I hope by the time you receive this newsletter the temps will be warm

enough to start melting all that white stuff and this long cold winter will be behind us.

As of February 27, all the renewal/waiver forms that remained to be processed have been mailed out and we look forward to getting those signed and returned back to us. Re-

member all of the members with “multi-year” memberships still need to sign a waiver and in doing so, we will issue a replacement membership card to you showing a Red ‘W’ that signifies your new waiver is on file with the chapter.

Please join me in extending a warm welcome our newest chapter members … Welcome to your New Home!!

PS- Think Spring!!!

Membership Notes submitted by Steve ‘R1’ Berry, Membership Officer

Page 4: Wolverine Tracks March-April 2014

It goes without saying that this winter has been one of the nastiest ones in mine or anyone I knows memory…frankly it’s been a real bitch, and I for one will not be

sad to see it fade away…the faster the better. But with winter fading away and the roads drying up and

the grass starting to come back, I shouldn’t have to remind ev-eryone of the dangers the con-dition of our fine roads present to us. In my opinion, this past season has re-defined what a Michigan pothole is…and believe me, you’ve seen what they can do to a car, just imag-ine the fun they could have with you and your motorcy-cle. A sudden, close encounter with such a monstrous abyss can ruin your day…not to mention what they can do to your motorcycle.

This early in the season while you are still get-ting your skills back up to status quo, the odds of a sudden encounter like this, given your reactionary skills being not yet in full form, greatly reduces your chances of successfully avoiding a threat like a monster pothole.

Yes, we have to be on our game watching out for these “landmines,” but even more so for the chuckleheads in the cages out there who are also trying to avoid them. This is

where the real, true danger lies. When cage drivers are focused on avoiding potholes and swerving around them, believe me, they are NOT looking out for motorcycles or anything else for that matter. I’ve had these idiots actually swerve and almost hit my big white truck…and I was right next to them! I’m sure this has happened to you too! I also don’t have to mention

the trash and debris these pothole encounters tend to leave on the roads…things that add additional challenges to your ride!

So be on the lookout and expect the unexpected and give this new, upcom-ing spring and riding season a lot of consideration when you first venture out. Re-member to ride defensively as if you are the invisible man or woman and remem-ber the lessons that “S.E.E.”

(Search-Evaluate-Execute) teach us…and apply that strategy.

As I stated at the last Chap-ter meeting…I’m not going to preach to you about wearing all your protective gear and a good helmet, or making sure you and your motorcycle are in top shape, but I will strongly sug-

gest you please consider doing so...but do it only if you think YOU are worth it (and between you and me…I think you are)!

Ride safe & ride sober…and keep your eyes and ears open!

Time flies when you’re having fun! I just realized that I have been involved with the Charity Com-mittee for almost 5 years. It doesn’t seem like

that long ago. Maybe it’s because of all the wonderful people I’ve met

along the way — everyone who has volunteered in the past by donating their time or money and everyone from the charity groups that we have helped support. Whatever the reason, the time spent was well worth it. We have helped so many children and their families.

Here are some of the children’s charities that we have supported in the past:

• Foster Care-movies, parties, cider mill • Bear Lake Camp-beach chair, embosser• Angels of Hope-Holiday adopt a family program• Christ Child House-clothes and toys for Christmas• Kelly’s Kidz-money• KIDS in Distress-Clothing• Kids Kicking Cancer-money• O.A.T.S.-Money and items from their wish list

• Operation: Kid Equip-school supply drive and Christmas Elf Tour

• SEEDLINGS-money• Toys for Tots-Money• Wigs 4 Kids-Money

We accomplished all this with the help of many of our Chapter brothers and sisters. Without everyone’s hard work and suggestions, this would not have been possible. That being said, if anyone has some spare time and would like to become a Charity Committee member, please let me know. The time involved is small compared to the outcome.

We are always looking for new children’s charities to donate to. If anyone has any ideas, please get in contact with the Charity Committee ([email protected]).

Charities Committee always giving back

Elizabeth Popovich, Girl Scout Troop #30318, sells Girl Scout cookies but also

asks her customers for donations so that she can send cookies to our troops who are deployed overseas. Three years ago Elizabeth decided she wanted to help our troops remember home by sending them Girl Scout cookies. The first year she sent out 564 boxes of delicious cookies to our troops. The second year it was 1,500 boxes. This year Elizabeth set a goal of 2,000 boxes. Well, she has already surpassed that goal with 2,300 boxes and she will keep going until the end of March. I had the pleasure of inter-viewing Elizabeth on Saturday March 1st 2014 while she was here at Wol-verine Harley-Davidson setting up for a long day of asking for donations and selling Girl Scout cookies.

Frank: Tell me a little about your-self.

Elizabeth: I’m 11 years old (12/26/2002). My Mom and Dad are Tracy and Dave Popovich, my sister is Angela. I attend Sequoia Elementary School. I live in Macomb Twp.

Frank: When you’re not raising cookie money, what do you like to do?

Elizabeth: I like to read about sci-ence, play soccer and use my Kindle. I recently came in second in the County Science competition.

Frank: We saw you on TV recently. How was that experience?

Elizabeth: It was fun. At first I was nervous but then I just started answer-

ing the questions and talking about what I do and why I do it. Once I got comfortable it was easy. When I got to Wolverine Harley-Davidson later that morning, some people who saw me on TV and heard me say that I’d be selling cookies and accepting dona-tions at Wolverine came in to Wolver-ine to meet me and made donations. I learned about the power of television that day.

Frank: Elizabeth, what made you decide to ask for donations so that you could send cookies to our troops?

Elizabeth: I wanted to give our sol-diers a taste of home. I wanted to give them something to remember home. Recently I met a Vietnam veteran who said he remembers when he got pack-ages from home and how good it made him feel. He donated $45 to my cause. In 2012 an Iraq vet said how important it is for our soldiers to get something that reminds them of home, it gives them hope. I heard from one soldier who got my cookies and he said that because of the heat, they were melted together. He said they were the sweet-est cookies he ever tasted.

Frank: Tell our readers where some of your cookies have gone.

Elizabeth: They have gone to Iraq, Afghanistan, Alaska, South Korea, Germany and some other places.

Frank: So Elizabeth, what are your long term personal goals?

Elizabeth: I plan to keep getting donations and selling cookies until I finish with the Girl Scouts. Then I plan on going into nursing (like my mom). I would like to go into pediatric nurs-ing.

Frank: Anything else you would like to add Elizabeth?

Elizabeth: Yes, I want to thank ev-eryone for all the donations that make what I do possible. Without the dona-tions, no cookies for our soldiers. I especially want to say thank you to our soldiers all over the world who are out there defending all of us and to their families who are waiting for them. Let’s everybody keep praying for our soldiers and their families. Your cook-ies are on the way.

Sweet Charity

From the Director’s Notebookby Paul Blotske,

Director

Yep, a question for you, ‘What do you want?’ What do you want from the Chapter? Why did you join? What do you expect? These are

questions we would like to know your answers. Know-ing these answers will help the officers, committees and volunteers put on events as well as facilitate chapter func-tions that you will hopefully enjoy. But we can’t know this unless you provide us the answers to those questions. In other words, we need your feedback and input. We want your feedback and input. Without, we’ll just have to use our best guesses as to what the membership wants.

Feel free to email any officer, attend a committee meet-ing or stop someone at the next chapter meeting or event. It’s always struggle to get input. We have used suggestion boxes, online surveys, paper surveys a show of hands, etc to get some feedback. So please feel free to provide your thoughts to the questions above.

If you are new to the chapter (or just havn’t been around much) please don’t hesitate to ask. We are happy to answer your questions.

The committees are working on 2014 events but there is still plenty of time to work-in your suggestions. So, what do you want? Let us know.

On another take of that question, don’t forget to check-in on the National H.O.G.® website on occasion. You may have find some answers to your questions there. Check out some of the news articles published by the H.O.G.® leadership out of Milwaukee. Check out the upcoming events – many state rallies are scheduled as well as Nation-al H.O.G.® events. Have you ever been to a 3, 4, 5 or 6 day H.O.G.® event/ride? They are usually very enjoyable. Nice rides with nice stops along the way. Check out the upcoming events and consider participating in one. Maybe get a group of Chapter people to go along….

Harley revamped the website last year and there is plen-ty of info to help you get the most out of being a H.O.G.® member and we want you to get the most out of being a Wolverine Chapter #1332 member!

Let us know the answer to, what do you want? Thanks for your support.
