The WL556E Wireless-N repeater needs to be on the same channel as the main Wireless Router/AP for it to be able to communicate properly. If the main Wireless Router/AP switches from one channel to another, then there would be a discrepancy on the wireless link between the repeater and the AP. To get around this issue, you have to change the Wireless Router/AP channel from “Auto” to any specific channel for 1 to 13. Steps to change your main Wireless Router/AP channel 1. Verify the IP address of your main Wireless Router/AP by going to the command prompt. To open the command prompt, Click Start > Run > Type cmd and click OK 2. On the command prompt, type ipconfig and press Enter

WL556E Unable to connect to Wireless AP with Auto Channel

Configuration

There are a few make and models of Wireless Routers and Wireless Access Points that are having

connectivity problems with the WL556E. The WL556E Wireless-N repeater needs to be on the same

channel as the main Wireless Router/AP for it to be able to communicate properly. If the main Wireless

Router/AP switches from one channel to another, then there would be a discrepancy on the wireless

link between the repeater and the AP. To get around this issue, you have to change the Wireless

Router/AP channel from “Auto” to any specific channel for 1 to 13.

Steps to change your main Wireless Router/AP channel

1. Verify the IP address of your main Wireless Router/AP by going to the command prompt. To

open the command prompt, Click Start > Run > Type cmd and click OK

2. On the command prompt, type ipconfig and press Enter

3. From the picture above, check the IP address of your Default Gateway. This is the IP address of

your main Wireless Router/AP.

4. You have to access the web GUI of your main Wireless Router/AP to be able to change the

channel. To do this, open your web browser and type the IP address of your main Wireless

Router/AP, in this case is 192.168.1.254 on the address bar

5. Input username as admin and password as admin, and click on the OK button, or check the

documentation of your router/AP for the login information

6. In the web GUI of your main Wireless Router/AP, look for the Wireless Configuration page.

7. Change the Wireless Channel from Auto to any channel from 1-13. Make sure you Save and

Apply the new configuration to your main Wireless Router/AP.

8. After the configuration is completed, Please re-do the setup for your WL556E Wireless-N

Repeater.
