CLEFT SENTENCES

In which sentence does the subject have more emphasis? 

A. Albert Ellis  made the discovery from which Nauru is still reeling.

or

B. It was Albert Ellis who made the discovery from which Nauru is still reeling.

Cleft sentences add emphasis to a noun, a person, a time, a phrase or a clause by using the structures:

It is / was ... that / who

What .... is / was   

e.g. Only in 1968 the Naurans could begin to benefit from their riches.

It was only in 1968 that the Naurans could begin to benefit from their riches.

They shipped the phosphate to Australia.

What they did was (to) ship the phosphate to Australia.
