One position that remains open from last year is Church Treasurer. I ask you to continue to search your hearts to determine if you are called to serve in this, or any other position. I would also like to ask that our current committee chairs check with their members to determine if they wish to continue to serve, and also to think about who else in the congregation might do well as part of your team. NEWS FROM THE ROCK...

July 2017

From your pastor:

July begins my second year as your pastor here at Rockbrook. It has certainly been an eventful

year in my life. I pray that through this past year I have been a blessing to you and to our

shared faith community. I know that you have been a blessing to me.

In June we had a fantastic Vacation Bible School! Thanks to Julie and all of our church

volunteers who made that happen! And, about the time you receive this newsletter our Fusion

Youth Group will be returning from their summer mission trip in Montana. Thanks to Robert

and all the volunteers who made that happen, especially those who took a week off to travel

with the Youth! This month I will be presenting awards to Jim Koubsky and Jayden Soukup

who have earned their God and Me Awards. It has been a pleasure to get to know these two

young men and their families. Being around all these young people has shown me that the

church is certainly alive and well!

Later this month I will be traveling to Denver for a family reunion and to see my Uncle Tuck,

(for whom you have been praying). There are cousins on that side of my family whom I have

not seen since I was a teenager, so I am really looking forward to it. On the way back I plan to

stop in Scottsbluff to see my Aunt Ruth (from the other side of my family), who is now 99

years old.

Toward the end of summer I hope to begin the process of nominating people to serve as our

church leaders and committee members for next year. One position that remains open from

last year is Church Treasurer. I ask you to continue to search your hearts to determine if you

are called to serve in this, or any other position. I would also like to ask that our current

committee chairs check with their members to determine if they wish to continue to serve, and

also to think about who else in the congregation might do well as part of your team. As I said

last year, if you are currently on a committee and I don’t hear from you I assume that you are

happy in your current role. If that is not the case, please let me know.

It is a pleasure to serve people whose feet are firmly planted in faith and whose hands are

extended outward to help others and to serve!

Blessings!

Pastor Jim

News From the Rock . . .

Hello from the Gracious Generosity Committee!

We would like to thank those that have continued to pray for Rockbrook’s finances and continue to

give to our finances. Our revenue was down a little in May. Our revenue for May was $24,200.00

and expenses were $29,700.00. Remember we had higher revenues in April that were offset in

May. We were only able to pay mission shares of $610 (only what was designated), so we have

only paid $2,884 towards the yearly total of $41,435 owed for 2017. We are still struggling this

year to stay on top of our bills, so your continued support and prayers are important.

Greetings from the Rockbrook Trustees!

The Trustee committee will be hosting an AED/CPR training class on August 23rd from

6:30-8pm in the Friendship Room. We'd love for members in our congregation to attend

the class and learn how to be helpful in an emergency. The cost will be determined by the

number of participants. Please let the church office, Janice Samson or Kathryn Hauswald

know if you would like to attend. Thank you!

…IMPORTANT SUMMER NEWS FOR CHILDREN …

NO SUNDAY SCHOOL in JULY

Coming in August: Children’s SUNDAY SCHOOL FALL KICKOFF August 20TH

We will restart children’s classes for the new “school year” on August 20th.

Do you want to be part of the children’s ministry at Rockbrook UMC?

We have great kids!

It’s not too early to let Julie know that you’d like to share your time with our children

as a Sunday school teacher or helper this Fall!

Contact Julie at [email protected] or call/text 402-709-9022. Thanks!

***There will be no official library time during the summer Sunday school time, but children are en-

couraged to continue checking books out on their own. It would also be appreciated if any old books

are returned so they can be re-shelved for others to use. Thank you!

Thank you so much to all who helped make Vacation Bible School a fun and meaningful time for

our children and visitors! Thank you, children and parents, for devoting your week to God!

Please read more details that are published elsewhere in this newsletter.

Thank you to those who agreed to participate in our VBS mission project,

“Shield a Badge” which is sponsored by Omaha Police Chaplains.

Please remember to pray daily for the name on your card.

Please pray for the safety and well being of the officer and his/her family.

Thank you for being a prayer hero!

Jail Ministry Opportunity

Rockbrook Church has been blessed to serve at the jail for the past 9 years. It has been a joy to be the hands and feet of God, serving the incarcerated. In addition to providing a monthly service, there is a team of graders. This group grades Bible lessons that have been done by the inmates. Most of these lessons come from the group of men from mod 4 where we do Sunday services. Currently there are 5 of us on this team. We have all been enriched by sharing our faith with these men. Good News Jail and Prison Ministry is looking for more graders due to the popularity of the lessons. They are delivered twice a month. It takes each grader 1-2 hours twice a month to cor-rect the lessons. Answer keys are provided. The highlight for the graders is that the inmate is to write a paragraph on how this passage applies to his life. It is our honor to encourage and uplift them as we share their faith jour-ney. The lessons are distributed and picked up at church. If you are interested in finding out more about this en-riching opportunity, contact Lynn Ashby at 402-390-0661.
