Inspiring Young Person
My name is Alice and I have a disability called Autism. No one with Autism is the same but below are some examples of how
my Autism affects me. My Autism makes me different; but I like my Autism
because it makes me kind, clever and unique.
Hi, my name is Kenan and I am 14 years old. I have been nominated for this by staff at Linwood School as they
think I am a really good volunteer. I have just started at the school as I found it quite difficult at my old school. At Linwood it’s good because the classes are smaller and I
don’t get distracted so much. The students are better and the teachers are really nice. I am now a “Linwood Student Crew” member which I really like. I help out and do jobs
like building things and supporting other students. It makes me feel good and happy to help.
Are you or someone you know an inspiration to others? If yes, then write in and you could be in the next edition. Send your letters to 4-6 Old Christchurch Lane, Bournemouth, BH1 1NE or email us at
When I’m not at school I go to Scouts and play football with my friends. I also love playing “Call of Duty” on my PS3. When I’m older I want to be a mechanic because I love cars and getting dirty.
My favourite car is a Ford Escort.
Julie who runs Linwood After School Club says: “I like Kenan helping us at Club Linwood because he is always kind and
caring, very helpful and smiley. I know I can trust
him to do a great job, whatever we ask him to
do”.
I find
it difficult to follow
instructions but if the instructions
are simple to understand, broken
down and specific, I can do
tasks really well.
I find
it difficult to cope with
change in my routine but if I
know in advance & get
support, I can
cope well.
I sometimes talk a lot about my specialist
subject but this means I am
very clever & passionate.
and I am good at remembering
facts.
I take things literally but I’m always honest & say what I
I find it hard to make eye contact. I am listening but I find it easier to understand when I am not looking at your face.
I often get sensory
overloads & find it difficult
to concentrate but if I am
in a place where I
feel happy, I can

Things we have done, things we have seen
I helped out at the National Citizens Programme, running Chatterbox workshops about disability awareness. It was
really good to teach people about my disability and make people more aware. People said they were shocked when we played “Match the celebrity with their
disability.”By Jacob
I play golf in the garden. I like crazy golf because I like hitting the ball down
the grass.

For my 13th Birthday, I got a AFC Bournemouth season ticket.
I walk once a week to Dean Court at 3pm to watch the
matches. My favourite player is Harry
Arter. He is amazing.By Cameron.
I went to the cinema with my Mum. I went to see Monsters
Inc. It was funny. My favourite monster was
the fluffy one.By Sam
We were at Bournemouth Airshow, watching the
aeroplanes and getting the public to work out our true
and false facts about disabilities. It was lots of fun and we even got our faces
painted each day.By Dale
When I’m not at school, I play with cars. My favourite car is a Peugeot 205, because it is. I do work experience at Woody’s where I help out, clean and
look after kids. I like doing it because I want to be a police
officer when I am older.

I go to a dance club at Pelhams in Kinson. I have been dancing for 10
years and really love it. At the dance club I feel really happy because the
people are nice and I can get 1:1 support if I need it.

I went to Newbury with my
granparents. I walked around different churches. We saw some nice ducks and then I went to Christchurch to do some
shopping and then I went to Stewarts Garden Centre and had a
nice hot chocolate with cream.By Liam
Poppy and Max’s Problem PageDear Poppy,
I want to go on Facebook but I’m a bit scared of people writing horrible messages.
Can you give me some advice?
From Molly
Hi Max,
I’m just starting to go out on my own.
How do I make sure I’m safe when I am out and about?
From Stevie
Hi Molly,
Friends are very important and Facebook is a good way to chat with friends
and family online. Remember if people do start sending horrible messages to you; you could
report and block that person from Facebook. If you do that, they won’t be able to contact you any more. Also tell a trust worthy adult
who can help advise you further. From Poppy
Hi StevieWell done for going out on your own.
To keep you safe, you should: *Tell a parent where you are going and what time
you will be back. *Take a phone with credit and battery so you can
ring someone if you need to. *Sign up for a safe places card. A safe places card
enables you to access safe places when you are out in town, if you ever need help. Just look for a safe places sticker in the window of a shop, go in,
show staff your card, and they will help you. From Max

Can you guess the space characters some of The Chatterboxes are pretending to be below?
Above and below are some space drawings which young people at “Linwood After School Club” have created.

Below are some photos taken by a Chatterbox member called Jacob.
Space facts by Thomas. Aged 9
- It would take you 3.6 billion years to travel the diameter of the universe at the
speed of light.
- It would take you 77,000 years to travel the diameter of the galaxy.
- A scientist did an algebra sum which found that there were over 27 planets in the galaxy, which could have other human
species living on them.

Space, a place where my imagination can roam free; Space holds the key, to my everlasting sanctuary. My mind, my
fabrications, allow me to see such oddities, and I glimpse a sight, a sensation, and marvel at the prodigy, what a sight for
the creator...can it be true? In confused
splendor, I review and my sight I pursue, within the
infinite skys of blue, I think I see a light flicker, a spaceship, and an alien, too! In a blink of an eye, my vision has gone, yet the memory will leave me a smile, that
lasts so long.
When sensory overloads, drive me crazy, Looking up into space, is where you’ll find me. I sit outside, with grass between my toes, allowing the calm of night, to melt away my woes. Gazing up at the stars, so far, so bright, the wonders of the universe
beholds a magical sight. Twinkling and dancing, the stars shimmer, alongside the
moon, also glimmers. Pale speckled slendor, of moonlight streaking, light
sources gleaming, yet still I’m peeking. Kinetic, moving, lit upon my freezing skin, only in the moons ghostly white sheen, can the obscene, be calmed by the tranquil
space scene.
What order do the planets go in; starting from the Sun?
Answer: Sun, Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune.
