Introduction
The programme is intended to provide an exposure to the participant about how to use Excel spreadsheets in dealing with managerial decision problems. Several real world problems can be modelled as linear programming problems, integer programming problems, or network problems.The participant will learn (with Excel spread sheets):
How to model various real world problems as linear programming problems and how to solve such problems
How to generate sensitivity reports and how to analyse the reports
Modelling and solving Integer programming (IP) problems
Modelling and solving Network problems – shortest path problem, Maximum Flow problem, Minimum cost flow problem
Session Plan
4 sessions of 90 minutes each per day, a total of 8 sessions per 2 days
Session 1: Linear programming (LP) problems: Introduction
Session 2: Modelling and solving LP problems using Excel spread sheets
Session 3: LP problems – more applications
Session 4: Generating and Analysing Sensitivity reports
Session 5: IP problems – applications
Session 6: IP problems – applications
Session 7: Shortest path problem, maximum flow problem, Minimum cost flow problem
Session 8: Discussion

Srirangacharyulu B. joined IIM Trichy as Assistant Professor in the area of Operations Management & Quantitative Techniques in December 2011. He graduated in Mechanical Engineering from Sri Venkateswara University in 1998. He obtained his M. Tech. degree in Industrial Engineering from the same University in 2000 and secured first rank. He obtained Ph.D. from Indian Institute of Technology Madras in 2010. His dissertation focused on developing exact and heuristic algorithms for scheduling problems with non-regular performance measures. He worked as a Post-Doctoral Research Fellow in the area of Flexible Manufacturing Systems for a short period at Indian Institute of Technology Madras.
Before joining IIM Trichy, he worked as Assistant Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at NIT Calicut for more than a year. He has conducted the Faculty Development Programme twice at NIT Calicut. Prior to his Ph.D., he has 6 years of experience in teaching at MVGR College of Engineering Vizianagaram. His research interests include Scheduling, Supply Chain Management, Flexible Manufacturing Systems and Inventory Control. He published his research work in reputed international journals like Computers & Operations Research, European Journal of Industrial Engineering, and International Journal of Operational Research. He has also presented his research in various International Conferences. His teaching interests include Operations Research, Operations Management, and Simulation. He is a reviewer for IEEE Transactions on Automation Science and Engineering. He has been the editorial board member of the International Journal of Applied Research in Mechanical Engineering.
