MEDIA RELEASE 19th February 2006
With Paua To Burn there was No Argument, just Slick Galore!!!!!!!!!
The Australian Cup Carnival got underway last Saturday night with a spectacular night of action featuring the three invitational group races over the Meadows three distances of 525m, 600m and 725m. It was a case of first out and first home in all three features, the winners Closing Argument, Slick Galore and Paua To Burn blew the quality opposition away virtually solo trialling so dominant were their collective performances.
The major feature of the three the Group Two Temlee brought together a classic field of in form sprinters. Vapour Whirl started a $2.90 favourite per medium of box one and two brilliant Meadows wins over the past weeks. His kennel mate Melbourne Cup winner Closing Argument ($3.40) with a record of seven wins on the track was perfectly drawn in two and like he does most times he flew the boxes and quickly opened up a winning break at the first turn. Recording a fast 4.97 the Silver Chief winner was flying in the lead, he smashed the second section record running 17.53 and raced home over the concluding stages recorded an outstanding 29.66 four hundreds of a second outside Big Daddy Cool’s time standard of 29.62.
Defending Australia Cup champion Pure Octane ($5.10) ran on strongly to finish second six and a quarter lengths behind the winner and Cranbourne Cup winner Pororoca ($13.20) after being checked down the back finished well to grab third. However the race was all about the winner and how impressive he was in scoring.

In a top training effort by Cameron Taylor and Darren Murray Closing Argument goes into next weeks heats of the Australian Cup as the dog to beat he has now raced 20 times for 16 wins and two placings and his stake earnings after the $40,000 to the winner Temlee went to $291,985.
The Temlee became part of the Australian Cup Carnival in 2003 listed are the past winners.
2003 Excite Ability, 2004 Hotline Hero, and 2005 Paua To Burn.
THE ZOOM TOP
The Group Two Zoom Top over the distance of 725 metres assembled a classy group of form stayers considering it unfortunately suffered a direct clash with the NCA Gold Cup final in Sydney.
Queenslander Quidame was a short priced favourite at $1.80 and was expected to lead from box two. But jumping quickly from five Slick Galore ($7.30) had other ideas, he raced into the first turn with a handy break, Quidame had missed the start and was strung up in bit of traffic. Pouring on the pace Slick Galore was motoring out in front and even at the post the first time round he looked the dog to beat. Racing off the back with the field struggling to keep up Slick Galore was full of running going down to the line an easy eight and a quarter lengths winner.
Slick Galore had recorded smart sections of 4.99, 16.04, 29.61 and a winning time of 42.36. Considering his best effort at the Meadows was 43.09 in his only win from 13 starts he has never raced better.
Bentley Jane ($29.70) battled on for second in front of the ever consistent Rocky ($8.50) third.
The rest of the field in finishing order followed 4 th Estella ($21.70), 5 th Quidame ($1.80), 6 th Springvale Jinx ($22.60), 7 th Elite Force ($28.80) and Atomic Jet ($4.60).
Slick Galore early in year was transferred to youthful trainer Jamie Ennis who introducing training methods he learnt in Singapore when stable foreman for leading thoroughbred trainer Len Treloar. He has combined a number of different methods including a complete change of routine for Slick Galore featuring swimming and mixed fitness standards from day to day. Whatever he has done it has worked a treat with Slick Galore. The black son of Token Prince x Cash Galore (Moonambel Prince x Chrishelle) is in career best form and goes into next weeks heats of the Group One Gleeson and Tonta as the greyhound to beat.
Slick Galore has raced 61 times for 14 wins and 26 placings and his over all stake earnings has rocketed to $90,625.
Listed below are the past winners of the Zoom Top.
2003 Tears Of Jupiter, 2004 Irinka Barbie, and 2005 Rocky.

THE ROOKIE REBEL The third of the features for the night was the Group Three Rookie Rebel conducted over the 600 metres, last years Temlee winner Paua To Burn was a pronounced red hot favourite at $1.20. The Nowra superstar was more than entitled to be such cramped odds at her only two starts over the Meadows 600 she equalled the track record at 34.09 in a heat of the New Years Cup returning to lead all the way in the final in another fast run of 34.26. Here in the Rookie Rebel Paua To Burn had the added advantage of box one a draw that was going to suit her in no uncertain terms.
Again the black and white daughter of Awesome Assassin made a one act affair of a feature race she begun well and by the first turn had raced through on the rails to set up a handy lead. Once in front it was a matter of times and margins as with all due respect the rest of the hand picked field were seriously out classed. The margin was ten and a quarter lengths, with the time a brilliant run of 34.16 with lighting fast splits of 8.84 and 21.68.
Chasing the champion home was the reserve Benowa Rocket ($44.20) that got a run when Schmick Allen was scratched and third home was Blue Mania ($13.30). The rest of the field in finishing order followed 4 th Ray Reltub ($29.10), 5 th Chief Tanga ($32.30), 6 th Broker’s Ace ($16.20), 7 th Cool Logistix ($12.40) and Porcelain Doll ($26.10).

The question most of the greyhound fraternity are asking is has the champion raced better than she is at the moment. Paua To Burn is four in July and given Steve White simple hand picks her race starts these days she could race in her current form for most of the year. If retirement is on her agenda remains to be seen and is known by her connections. She also goes into next weeks heats of the Australian Cup in peak form in a trial over the Meadows 525 a week ago she recorded track record time so given a favourable draw she could certainly make another group one final and go after Rapid Journey’s world stakes record.
The mighty race bitch has now started in 54 races for 27 wins and 14 placings with the $20,000 first prize for the Rookie Rebel it took her stake earnings to a staggering $422, 905. In a stella career she has raced in no less than 15 group finals, nine group ones and six group three’s.
Superstar Paua To Burn in a class of her own.
Listed below are the past winners of the Rookie Rebel.
2003 No Shame, 2004 Shamira Bale, and 2005 Malfoy.
