STUDENTS

Less than a decade later, Al found another key mentor in his journey: beloved Wentworth professor Gordon Anderson, who recognized his considerable talent, and encouraged him to pursue his dream career.

Al credits his experience at Wentworth with giving him a strong foundation for his future successes—from exceptional postgraduate work through to his role as the co-founder of one of the most well-regarded architecture firms in New England.

Rapid evolution in technology and industry has challenged us to develop and expand our facilities to stay ahead of the curve… rather than just keeping pace. We want our students to hit the ground running, wherever they choose to land.

The knowledge and training we provide are unparalleled. The most cutting-edge technology available is being used to create real-world solutions. And that’s why Wentworth is a place where students will get the right education for right now…

… and for TOMORROW.

Two Architecture graduates, just

over 40 years apart… but each one

is making a valuable contribution

to one of the most important

projects in Wentworth’s history.

Nicholas Testa, Architecture ’11

Nick was ready to put his skills to work in a co-op position with a local firm— and Al Spagnolo was looking for a smart, motivated student to take part in the effort to transform Beatty Hall into the new Flanagan Campus Center.

Nick hit the ground running at Spagnolo, Gisness & Associates, and quickly became one of the most valuable members of the team. Wentworth’s focus on practical skills and hands-on learning was clearly evident in his contribution to the planning and promotion of the new initiative. And it made a huge difference in Nick’s life, as well:

“I gained invaluable experience during my time at Spagnolo, Gisness & Associates, and developed confidence in my work —and chosen direction. The co-op experience was truly one of the most important steps in my education.”

Since we opened our doors in 1911,

Wentworth Institute of Technology

has always focused on hard work and

achievement... on training and educating

students to make a real difference in

their industries and communities. Our

century-long commitment to meeting

the needs of our exceptional students

hasn’t changed. But fulfilling this mission

in our ever-evolving world requires

constant change and investment...

“There is much that has evolved and grown at Wentworth, especially from a program and technology standpoint. The core values haven’t changed, though –the students have a work ethic that make them standouts in our industry.”Al Spagnolo, co-founder of Spagnolo, Gisness & Associates

Al Spagnolo, Architecture ’70

Al knew his life’s calling years before he could actually pursue it. As a fifth-grader in Providence, RI, he used to sit by the window of his family’s apartment, sketching variations on the city’s skyline. His teacher, Margaret Wood, recognized his budding talent, and recommended him for a weekend architecture program for young students.
