Wish and hope
-are used to express desires
wish-is used for desires unlikely to happen.
Wish -The past form of verbs like could, would, had and were is
used.
HOPE -is used for desires likely to happen.
HOPE -The present form of verbs like can, will and have is
used.
If only -can also be used to express desire unlikely to happen.
Examples:
I wish I were a forest guard. I wish I could protect the forest
from illegal loggers.Examples:
I hope the forest guards will do their jobs religiously. I hope
the laws against illegal logging will be strictly
followed.Examples: If only the trees could talk, they would reveal
