Diamond Lake has estimated that they have around 400,000 trout at the start of the season, ranging from up to 10 lbs. to 15 inches. Since they have such a good count, the ODFW had made a rule change for the 1st of May, 2011. The daily limit will be raised from 5 to 8 legal length trout per day!
Though the ice is still covering the lake and is several inches thick, fishing is limited to ice fishing. You can rent ice fishing augers at the lodge, and remember, you will need to wear preservers on the ice. Always be cautious when venturing out on the ice for this style of fishing. Especially in spring, use caution, as this is the ice melting season.
This is exciting news. Recent memory fails as to when the ODFW has RAISED a fishing limit, not just lowered and reduced the fishing opportunities.
Diamond Lake has had a few bumps in the past years, but is recovering well, and with this apparent bumper crop of trout, it should prove to be a favorite fishing and camping destination this season.

I moved three times before settling in Adrian House. � is year will be my 17th anniversary. In order to conserve the history of the building, the name change is all about giving credit to the original owners of the house. It was built in 1940 and hauled on skids and pieces from out by Highway 31 to its present location by the Adrians. It is one of the few old houses in La Pine that did not get burned in the many fi res here. Corinne Martinez raised Adrian House onto a real foundation, but other than a room that was added on to the back side, it is in its original fl oor plan.” Who are the main players at Adrian House? “Karen Payne is the nail tech, Lanetta Clark does massage, and I cut and style hair and do make-up.”Why do you work, live and play in La Pine? “As for me, it is really kind of funny because I never intended to live here, but my husband, Rick, loved it here and he bought property back in 1974, and here I am! I stay because of the people. We are unique to have people who accept you for who you are. If you are moral and honest, it doesn’t matter if you are a peon or a professional.”What is the potential for growth for your business? “For me it is not about growing. OBITUARYDorothy Tate of La Pine, Oregon, formerly of Gresham, Oregon, died Saturday, April 23, 2011, at The Prairie House in La Pine. She was 96.
Dorothy Mae Tate was born October 10, 1914, in Neoga, Illinois, the daughter of Joel and Hattie (White) Strohl.
Not long after graduating from high school, she married Amos Oliver Tate on September 2, 1933, in Homer, Illinois. She was a homemaker and mom, raising her � ve children. Mrs. Tate was a member of the Powell Valley Mission Covenant Church in Gresham for many years. She enjoyed spending time with her family, gardening, sewing and camping.
Survivors include her sons, Jerry and Ron Tate, both of La Pine, Oregon, David Tate of Carlton, Washington, and John Tate of Gresham, Oregon; sisters, Dona Sjogren of Florida and Nellie Fletch of Illinois; 16 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, and numerous great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years; one daughter, Donna Mae Brinley; and one brother, Donald Strohl.
A Celebration of Life Service was held on April 30, 2011 at Bateman Carroll Funeral Home in Gresham, Oregon.
Memorial contributions may be made in Dorothy’s memory to Newberry Hospice, P.O. Box 1888, La Pine, Oregon, 97739.
